Need advice on which Electrolux to buy

Good Morning

I’m interested in buying a rebuilt Electrolux and I’m looking at several modelas and wondering if anyone here had any thoughts.

I’m considering 3 machines.

The Renisance...the marching is the cheapest of the 3. The seller says it’s in great condition I’m hesitant because I’ve read that this model has issues with the controls in the hose and I’m certain to have problems with it.

Next I’m looking at a lux guardian platinum. The machine looks beautiful and seller says it’s in great condition. This machine is priced about twice as much as the renisancd and is supposedly only about 5
years old.

The third machine I’m looking at is the epic 8000. This machine from what I can figure is about 20 years old and was refurbished by the seller. Supposedly was used very little. This machine is the most expensive around 50 more then the guardian platnum. From what I read the issues with the control on the handles were fixed in the model. I’m leaning toward this machine. I like th onboard tools and and supposedly a longer cord then other machines but I’m wondering if the guardian at 50 less and only five years old is a better choice. I’m buying the maxing to use. For regular cleaning not as a collectors piece.


People on here seem to know a lot about the different models. Wondering if any one had any thoughts or if they’d direct me to a totally different model.

They're all pretty similar. It's really just a matter of choice. I would go with the Epic 8000, because I like the Electroluxes that take style C bags the best, but you should just choose whatever fits you best. One thing to watch out for are generic made to fit parts. Whenever we get a broken Electrolux at the Aerus Electrolux office where I help out, it's almost always the fault of generic eBay parts or moisture. I'd also be weary of that Guardian Platinum too, because if it's being sold cheaply, it could be stolen.

The Renny and the 8000 are not all that easy to use. Quite long, loud, and hard to maneuver. Go for the Platinum as it is a CURRENT machine and has all the parts available. I love mine.

The Guardian Platinum is an excellent machine, but it's a bit much for me. My Aerus dealer doesn't sell very many Guardian Platinums. Most of his sales are of the Aerus Lux Legacy. It uses the same motor as the Platinum, but it's simpler and it takes style C bags.

I recommend the Guardian Platinum. I have the canister and matching upright and really like both of them. The canister is very quiet, variable speed control, excellent filtration, quiet power nozzle, true 6 ft. hose and even looks good!

The upright twin motor is also quiet, versatile and the best suction Lux has had in an upright vac. Easy to use for a quick vacuum.

I also would recommend the Guardian Platinum over the other two. Much quieter, feels more solid, better filtration, and more maneuver to use. Plus I'd prefer to have the viable speed controller on the body rather than on the handle.

The 8000 uses the same bags that the Renaissance uses which is Type R, Type C wouldn't fit. Also both the Legacy and the Platinum uses different motors. They both have the same PN motors but not the suction motors.

I currently have the Guardian Platinum but have also had the 8000. I would recommend the Guardian. It is quieter, has auto speed control and the hose handle is smaller in size thus making it easier to use when doing above the floor cleaning. I hated the hose handle on the 8000.

Silly me! I misread Epic 8000 as Epic 6500! The Epic 8000 does take style R bags and the Epic 6500 takes style C bags.

As others have said, the Renaissance and the Epic 8000 are the same machine. The Renaissance (black) ran from 1994-1997, and the Epic 8000 (white/gray) ran from 1997-1998. From what I've read, the controls on the Renaissance handle are sometimes finicky when they get old. The Epic 8000, which is essentially the same machine, has simplified switch-gear on the handle that isn't as apt to malfunction. However, I'm sure there are Renaissance owners who've had no troubles; it really makes a difference how it was treated by its previous owners.

The Platinum is an entirely different beast, even if it looks somewhat similar in shape. It represents the best and newest suction and filtration available and was a joint venture between Aerus and Lux International (vs being an all-Aerus design).

It all comes down to what you want. If you want top of the line suction and filtration and don't mind spending a pretty penny, the Platinum is the only choice. If you want to own the last (so far) pure Aerus design that also replaced the highly-successful final metal body canisters (the 1521), then I'd go for the Ren or the 8000, which are also cheaper.

Between the two oldies, I'm a sucker for the Renaissance for personal reasons. I remember an Electrolux salesman pitching that model to my parents (who didn't buy). I thought a black vacuum was so cool! The white/gray Epic 8000 wasn't around long before it was recolored white and blue, renamed Guardian, HEPA became standard, and then Electrolux transitioned to Aerus. In some ways, the 8000 is a little rare because that color scheme wasn't around long, but that's probably because white shows scratches. Most of those machines are black or white and blue. So idk... pick your favorite color, I guess!
