Need A New Steamvac

Hello All. My parents' Steamvac just died after about 7-8 years of owning it and they want to get a new one. For some reason, the brush motor stopped working and they're not putting any more money into it. I am unsure of which one to get for them, especially in today's day where everything built cheaply. I was deciding between an original style one, a Dual V, or a modernized one. I've attached a link for those who haven't seen the modernized version.

I always bought Hoover Carpet Cleaners until my last one fell apart and after buying a new Hoover Power Scrub Elite and it was so cheaply made and every part felt as though it would snap and it left my carpets VERY damp. So back it went and I bought a Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro 1986.

I absolutely love it and highly recommend it, my carpets fluffed up and were spotless! They also were totally dry in an hour with the Express Clean setting. I also like that all the cleaning fluid for the Bissell is non-toxic and Pet Safe, so I don’t have to worry about my Dog walking on it before the carpet is totally dry. (You all know our pets have to check things out Lol)

Anyway, if you get a chance, go to a Walmart or similar store and check out how well this Bissell is made AND notice all the nooks and crannies the carpet gunk, hair and dirt gets stuck in a Hoover (front main nozzle) and see how, without tools, the front of the Bissell Nozzle comes off to clean that gunk out. Also the Low profile nozzle is great to get under coffe tables, etc... it’s a great design. The Double Brushroll really cleans your carpet!

Also I really do use the Spot Shot too.. you just aim the front nozzle corner toward a spot, etc and push a button and it shoots a stream of the warm cleaning fluid.. very useful.

If you want a vacuum steam cleaner I'd try a bissell symphony. I know they have a version twice as much for pets. This machine steam cleans tile hardwood etc with distilled water and vacuum suction. It leaves no chemical stain or any other type of residue. You get really clean tile oak etc. It has a built in vacuum and cleans and dries instantly. If you are looking for carpet shampooer not this but non carpet surfaces will be cleanest they have ever been.

Has the screen that catches hair/ fuzz for the turbo powered brushes plugged? Down under, slide out wipe off screen?

Thank you for all your suggestions but I was leaning more toward a Hoover since our experience with Bissell shampooers has not been the best. As for the brushes not spinning, the motor was not stuck. I opened it up and found that the air turbine had snapped in half, which is why the brushes would not spin even with the clean intake screen.

No problem and no hard feelings. I’ve had the very best experience with Bissell and it’s all what each person is comfortable with or their preferences.

But that said, especially this last year, I’ve had excellent customer service, technical support and even items sent to me free. I also have lent my Bissell ProHeat 2X to several friends and it’s show to be very durable and easy to keep spotless clean after their filthy rugs were cleaned Lol one looked like a Frat house but he’s just a bachelor that never cleaned much.

I’ll add the only other bit of information I can to possibly help. A friend of mine who owns a vacuum shop and has done repairs for almost 12 years, he stated to me when I asked about buying a Hoover carpet cleaner, to AVOID the Max Extract models with the clear rounded fresh water tanks and the Dual Max, Dual Power with the clear “slender” fresh water solution tanks. The reason why is he had an extremely high rate of failure and cracking and leaking of this design and material.. and it’s about $45 to $50 Bucks to buy a new one directly from Hoover.com. He experienced so many where the custom said they dropped it or some didn’t even bump it and the material cracks or developers a leak. Just what he said, in fact he carries ALL the other Hoover’s with the different design, material (its opaque) in his store and hasn’t had one broken tank yet. And NOT that I’m still trying to persuade you to get a Bissell, but in comparison that tank is $33 bucks to replace. My solution tank (swear I’m not making this up) went flying across the kitchen (my hands were wet) and crashed into the wall and bounced off the floor.. not a scratch on it and it doesn’t leak.

I really do Love Hoover in general, just sad where TTI has cut corners and cheapened certain materials but not lowered pricing. Every company is sadly doing this. But anyway, if you really want a Hoover, that’s cool and from experience I almost bought (wish I had) the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe (see my link) if you get a Hoover. So I would Highly recommend this model over the one I returned after opening the box and seeing how poorly it was made. The solution and waste water tanks are very durable and not as prone to leaks. And the best part is after reading the manual, this one doesn’t require a screwdriver to open the front main suction path to clean the gunk out or the screen.

Thanks for the comments and feedback, I’m just sorry I didn’t do a good enough sales pitch on the Bissell, I’ve really had some great experiences with them and sadly the opposite with Hoover. Oh well it is what it is.. real customer service is slowly fading away, replaced by undertrained, inexperienced people who’ve probably never seen, let alone used the products they sell.

Bissell carpet cleaners are pretty good. I'd get one of those.
