Well after being in Florida for about a year and a half last Friday I finally found my first vintage machine. It is an Electrolux 1205 and it was in very nice shape. As most of the members down here will probably tell you we usually do find to many vintage machines. I found this beauty at a Lutheran Church Rummage Sale. It was sort of pushed under a table. It was in the orginal box but that was in really nasty shape with one end completely gone. I just finished detailing the machine and it turned out great. I don't believe this machine ever saw much use!

Nice Find, Terry!

A beautiful machine, and complete, too! And since you found it at a church rummage sale, I'll bet you got a good deal on it, too. Congrats!

Beautiful Find Terry...

Congratulations on such a remarkable find Terry. She's gorgeous! I don't know what it looked like when you found it, but it looks near MINT to me.

BTW, I got your message and owe you a phone call.

Now that's a nice looking vacuum and the color I really like. Seeing that just make the new stuff look even junkier

1205

Very Nice! Is the paint finish on the 1205 smooth or does it have texture? It looks like it is smooth meaning that it is an early model 1205 because Lux didn't switch over to the textured look and feel until later in the 1205 run.

You can also tell it's an earlier model because the PN-1 Power Nozzle "neck" has the push button release on the front where as the later models did not have this.

An Electrolux salesman told me once that the 1205 was one of Lux's best selling machines ever (besides the XXX) only because they had made similar looking vacuums for so many years (E, R, S, G, L, F) that when they introduced this "style" they sold millions. (Because it was something NEW that people had never seen from Lux before!)

Congrats on a great find! Enjoy it!

Wow Beautiful 1205

Great find,I have one that I got in '90,I wasn't collecting then so it was my everyday vacuum,It has the same powernozzle,I like them because they have the metel base and just seem to do a better job,you can put some pressure on them, the newer ones just don't seem to groom the carpet as well, everybody's house that I cleaned with it was always amazed, then one day I came home with an Olympia and retired the 1205,now the Olympia is well worn too, both deserve a restoration, after the G,my favorite these days. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Yes Logan, the finish is smooth. I did get a fantasic deal on this machine, $7.00 complete. I have discovered that the Church sales are alway the best at least around here. My mom had this machine but a later model which she got in 1974. The only thing wrong with this machine that I could find was that the bristles on the floor tool on one side and those on the dusting brush are almost completely gone and lots of them fell out. Anyone else ever see this. Lucky for me that a good friend has a set of replacement brushes for me. Terry

Beautiful 1205 Terry!!

My Aunt Ruth has one, she got it new in 1973 and is still using it today.
I also think the 1205 was quite spiffy looking in the blue.
Much better looking than the Golden and Super J's!

Great find!!

I tell you there is no feeling like the thrill of the hunt and the "okay i'm going to try not to squeal too loud with glee in front of all these people" feel once you have found a true gem!!! And you got the owners manual too! Happy Luxing!!!!!

Terry,

What an awesome find...we will have to start a 1205 Club...LOL

I have the one from Charlie Watrous with the first new style powerhead in chrome. It is a great cleaner.

Gorgeous Terry

How is the hose? Does it leak? You can still get beautiful new hoses for those machines (wire reinforced, not saran.) Can't wait to see it in less than two weeks!

Well technically the 1205 only came in blue, but the anniversary model that came out after the 1205 (Golden Jubilee) was still a 1205, but in Gold. The Jubilee had the same motor, etc. The only real difference between the two was the handle design. The Jubilee I have still has 1205 stamped on the inside of the bag lid as the model.
