My vacuum sightings

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Today I went to Goodwill, and there was a Dyson ball upright of some kind. I think the Multi Floor 2 model. I kinda wanted it because I don't have a Dyson in my collection, and I never used one.

Then I went to an estate sale, and there was a Kirby Avalir 2 G10D that they wanted $225 for. I also saw two older Electrolux canister vacuums with power nozzles and bins of attachments, but they were in a cabinet so I didn't know if they were for sale. But the people running the sale were talking amongst themselves and said a lady wanted to buy the bags for the Electrolux vacuums. One of the ladies said that she could get Electrolux bags on eBay, and they wanted to keep some of the bags to use with the vacuums.

And yeah, I know that was a really, really good deal on the Kirby, with how new it is. I would have bought it if I didn't live with my parents, because it takes up so much room with the attachments and all.

Goodwill today had a Kenmore 600 Series canister vac, the newer purple model, so it couldn't have been more than a couple years old. It was marked $39.99 but purple tags are 50% off this week. Still I couldn't bring myself to buy it. It DID have all the attachments with it including the Pet mini motorized tool. But it was quite dirty in the bag compartment and it just had that greasy look that said to me it was likely used in a house with smelly dogs. I decided to pass.

Habitat had a bagless Hoover Windtunnel upright that had self propelled. Which I thought was interesting because the other day I was wondering if Hoover ever made a self propelled bagless upright, which now I know they did. It was in good shape but I never liked that twin chamber bagless setup it had, and I'd rather have a bagged one.

Mainly I'm trying to go more for the truly vintage metal vacuums from the 50s-70s now. I have enough all plastic vacuums, ones I want of course, but I'd rather go for metal ones in the future. The problem is they don't turn up nearly as often as plastic vacs.

Kirby Sentria

So yesterday, I was out running errands and stopped in at a thrift store I hadn't been to in quite some time and there by the entrance was a Kirby Sentria in decent shape with a full array of accessories. The only thing was they wanted $199 for it and I wasn't about to pay that, especially considering I have one I bought about three years ago on eBay for $110, plus $20 shipping. I would consider $200 to be pretty much full retail for that machine. I'm guessing somebody actually took the time to look it up online and good for them for doing so. The price tag shows scheduled weekly price drops and if it's still in the shop on March 23, it'll bottom out at $53. I might consider it at that price but I hope they get more for it because I do like the charity that runs the shop, plus it would save me from myself by removing the temptation to buy it.

I have never paid over $50 for any of the Kirbys I have. The only ones out of my reach thus far are the Avalir 1 and 2, and anything from before the 1950s, and a couple of the 1980s models which are popular and get bidded on too much (Tradition, in blue, and the Legend, and the DS80). I got the Diamond Edition Ultimate G at Goodwill for just $30. I've been wanting that one ever since I started collecting, as I have a lot of throw rugs.

Try a pawn shop over a thrift shop if you want to get the newer Kirbys, often they are pretty cheap considering it's a brand new or lightly used Kirby that is only 1-2 years old.

Today I stopped at an estate sale that was full of 90s Hoovers. There was a green Hoover Elite Supreme hard bag upright, a Hoover Steamvac, and in the garage a green Hoover Tempo canister with the attachments but no wands. Apparently nobody wanted any of them since it was the third day of the sale.

Nice

If you sell on EBay the royal with power nozzle would go for$150 easy. I sold off some of my herd in December. I got 2 Kirby heritage 2 shake out versions for $10. I put a fan on one and cleaned them both up. I parted out a few vacuums. I'm getting my serger in the next few weeks. I'm putting on a fill tube and a zipper to each heritage 2's. I also got a classic 3 for $10 and a zipper and fill tube will make it HEPA.
I try to make money selling vacuums and not spending money to fix them. I have quite a bit of parts and resourceful when fixing.
I have 2 Bissell proheat times two. There really solid performing shampooers.

Vacuum cleaners with these features are costly. In order to save money on buying a new one, you should consult an expert on how to cut down on expenses related to repairing the Dubai air conditioner. You should know how much the repair services should cost you so you can set a budget. For the same reason, you should also decide how many such services you need in a year so that your budget for such services will be properly planned.

Today at Habitat there was a Hoover Spirit, I think it was brown. Had the hose, wands, and power nozzle with headlight, and some extra Hoover bags, but no other attachments, for $8. Looked like a fairly equipped model with cord reel and bag check light. Not a bad price, but I left it. Too many at the moment!

Goodwill has been dry lately for vacuums. But today there were a few modern uprights, along with a Fantom Fury. I do have to wonder if that Fury is the same one that I had mentioned seeing, and passing on, at an estate sale a few weeks ago.

They wanted $8.98. It was in decent shape, but the only attachment it had was the crevice tool. It seems Fantom attachments are hard to find.

Anyway, with that Kenmore canister curb find still being in my trunk, I decided to pass on the Fantom (again?). If it's still there on my typical Friday evening stop by, I may have to consider it again.

Only reason I stopped by today was happened to be on that side of town.

Wow. I only wish I could find a Fantom that cheap. They sell for $150-$200+ all day long on eBay. They are highly collectible. It's been on my list of vacs to get for the past 4 years. I have found both Hoover Z series for cheaper and that are even rarer than a Fantom if that makes any sense. lol

Huskyvacs

Email me! I have some boxes now and can finally ship again. I've got a Walmart Fantom Fury made 1 month before they stopped production. Very few minor issues, and I have no use for it. I'd sell it for $75 + shipping, and if you want I can send some pics.

"--wish I could find a Fantom--"

You can here! Also a Hoover Z.I have a Cyclone XT with 4 attachments under the lid.Maybe more uprights and Fantom canister parts including NICE power nozzle and probably canisters. All need to GO and NOT at EBay prices.

I went back to Goodwill Friday afternoon for my usual browse, and that Fury was still there. I still couldn't convince myself to get it, I also noticed that the top carry handle is missing.

Today I went to two estate sales. At the first there was some modern Hoover Bagless upright, a Craftsman Shop Vac, as well as one of those Kenmore "Heavy Duty" carpet cleaner/wet-dry vacuums. I was kind of interested in it, but completely turned off by the price - $200 firm! It didn't even appear to have the hose with it! No way I'd pay that even if it were complete. Oh well, I already have the two tone gray model anyway, I don't need another.

The second estate sale had an older Kirby with the attachments. I probably should have given it a closer look, but I don't collect them. I believe it was a pre 70s model. There was also a Sunbeam Mixmaster of the late 60s style in beige color. They wanted $45, and I already have enough mixers.

Today I went to two estate sales. One had a little Dirt Devil bagless upright for $50 (!!). The other had a Tristar (newer gray/black version) for $75. Looked complete. Today was half off. If I had the space I'd have probably gotten it, just to see what they're all about.

I also went to a liquidation store here that sells store returns and such. There was a Kenmore Elite canister there (the rose gold colored model, which I think means it's a non-Sears retail version). But it was behind some ribbons indicating it wasn't for sale at the moment.
