My Vacuum Collection

Here is a photo of my modest to say the least vacuum collection. More like a small gathering. Enjoy! I did not include the hoses or wands, but I have them too. I am missing the crevice tools and brushes for a couple of them.

Yuppers. Love them Luxes, but certainly would consider others. I am looking now to get a couple of Hoovers. The Kirbys are cool but always found them "cumbersome."

I'd say you have a great start to your collection. You can't go wrong with the Super J. I use mine on a regular basis and it is a personal favorite.

The red model in the middle is not what most of us consider a "real electrolux" as it is a Eureka with the lux name. Electrolux US (now called Aerus) sold the rights to the Electolux name in the US to Electolux of Europe which owns Eureka. Really what you have is a Eureka with the Electrolux name.

Even though it is not a "real" Electrolux it is still an very interesting design. I'd like to hear what you think of it as I have never tried one myself.

Here's a picture of my 50th Jubilee Electrolux. I like your collection. I found an Electrolux Aptitude in a thrift store in the red color, but they wanted $75.00 for it.

Electrolux Intensity

Hi Lux1521,

I learned from researching that my intensity is not a true Electrolux. It ended up in the collection because I purchased all of the vacuums except for one of my Super J's, from the local Kirby guy. He knew I was interested in Electrolux and offered me his entire lot of Electrolux branded vacuums. I do think it is a really unique design. To me, it looks like a formula race car with a wishbone for a handle. I am not fond of most current vacuums available today, but this one is an exception. It works great! Really pulls the dirt out of the carpets and fluffs them up too. My carpets feel very clean after I use the Intensity. There are some drawbacks though. The major complaint is that the bag is tiny. But for me, since I vacuum 2 times a day almost every day, there really isn't much dirtdust for it to pick up, so the bags will last me quite some time. Another complaint is that it doesn't really feel all that nimble to maneuver, and the height on the base makes it a poor choice for going underneath low furniture like coffee tables.

Lastly, I am having trouble collapsing the handle, I do not want to force it, so right now it is upright. I have heard that is a problem in general with these, and likely a bug they need to fix, especially in light of the fact that this is a main selling point, the ability to fold up for compact storage.

Overall performance is great. I like the push button control on the handle to switch from carpets to hard surfaces. The telescoping handle function is handy and that works well. It also has on onboard HEPA filter too. Though I am not sure if the HEPA filter craze is just the latest gimick.

Hi Arh1953,

That's a great looking Jubilee model. I am a big fan of the Super J and The Golden Jubilee. My Super J is my daily driver, and favorite vac currently in my collection.

Regardless of that Intensity being a "real" Electrolux or not depending on how you ascertain "real" it is an interesting vacuum and could well be very collectible in the future. How far in the future is anyones guess. Much like the maligned Hoover Z may one day be very collectible. Emphasis is on the "very" as no doubt in 50 or 100 years it will be a collectible to someone.

That's why I quotation marked "real" because it isn't a "real" Electrolux from past North American experience. Anyways, as I foretold of future events seen clearly in my crystal ball, Aerus will meet it's demise and Electrolux AB Sweden will swoop in and buy up the remnants, moulds etc. hitherto unavailable to them and once again begin selling the N.American machines

Real Electrolux

Hi Pete and Ian,

The entire Electrolux/Aerus Electrolux issue still has me going...huh???? Ian has a point, and I guess my Electrolux is a real Electrolux because it has roots in the original lineage.

Regardless, the design is striking, and I enjoy using it. Plus the fact it cost me 25.00, makes it all the better!

Pete, I don't doubt you might be right in your vision for the future of the Electrolux brand name.

Ian does have a good point. The red Electrolux vacuums do have their roots in the original Electrolux brand from the corprate perspective but they have no clear evolution from the older models like the American Aerus cleaners have. That is the difference that I see. Current American Electrolux models have many features included in them that are over 50 years old, such as the combo duster, flip over floor tool, self sealing paper bags, and the basic tank shape. Even the L shaped PN is over 25 years old. All of these features look different that when they were introduced but the resembelance is clear. The european lux models don't have this type of clear evolutionary chain from their ancestors. That is the biggest difference that I can see.

Even though the red lux models have no resemblence to there predecessors that does not mean that they are bad. My personal opinion is that I would not want either a Euro design lux or an Aerus. Neither of them are what they once were regardless of their appearance. Of course thats just what I think. What you collect is personal choice.

My favorite Electroluxes are for sure the metal canisters. My Super J's are by far my persoanl favorites from what I own. When I acquired the lot from the Kirby guy, I would have passed on all but the Super J, if I had to choose. But I bought them all from him for $100, so I didn't think that was half bad considering my local vacuum store had an Epic they wanted 225 for, and the flea markets wanted 150+ for just the canisters on the older metal bodies like Super J.

I originally thought I would sell the "surplus" vacs on ebay, and make back my money and then some. But, I got attached to each and every one, and can't bear to part with them, even though I have doubles on the Super J. Although, I would probably trade on of my J's if someone had something I wanted to add to the collection.

The Intensity is certainly a good vac save the minor flaws I mentioned above. I like the unique design and the performance is top notch.

Royal Hand Vacs

I was just reading your profile and I noticed you are looking for the Royal Hand Vacs. Wish I had known that last weekend. I was at the flea market and someone had a Royal Hand vac with a blue handle and a cloth bag for 5 dollars. I might go again this weekend, if I see it I can pick it up for you. I am not knowledgable on the Royal Hand vacs, so I am not sure if that is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the kind words, Debbie. I paid $10.00 for my cleaner, and I haven't even used it yet! Things are rather hectic here at the moment. To have paid $100.00 for all of yours is quite a deal! Enjoy them!

Yeah the royal handvacs are some of my favorites. It is unlikely that the one you found is the one I'm looking of but you never know. I suggest that if it is still there you buy it and if it is not what I'm looking for you can add it to your collection. They are fine vacuums and I think you might enjoy having one. It's certainly different than the electrolux's that you have and will begin to give you collection a bit of diversity. The price is not bad either.
