So I took the rebuilt Model 515 in to show it off to my staff last week, and my Secretary said, "I have a Kirby I bet you can't do anything for. In fact, you can just have it." This is what she brought into my office today. So the challenge is on! The gauntlet has been laid down! Even my dog is a little leery!

The castings don't seem to be beyond redemption. I've seen far worse that came out well. The whole bag assembly needs to be changed too. The outer bag has a rip in it and the Mini-Emtor has seen better days. However I might be able to bring back to life with some soap and water and a Magic Eraser. But this one is going to have to wait. I have one or two machines waiting ahead of it.

That thing is crying to be restored.
If she bought that new and treated it that bad
then I dont think she deserves to own vacuums.
expecialy not $1200+ ones

My gosh look at those wheels! I can't believe she used it like that! It will be quite a project to restore!

G3 wheels...

Hey Bill.

Those wheels are even worse than I pictured from our conversation. And yessssssssssss, ...they are way worse than the set I have in my "example" box.

I use the "examples" (like you have there) to "show" customers maintenance that needs to be done, to keep their machine functioning for decades to come.

It's funny that people know that 'tire tread' wears on a vehicle; & yet, they sometimes cannot grasp the same concept, that tread will wear on a vacuum.

I guess some of that may come from the throw-away society we have become. Throw it out, before or when it needs maintenance.

L@@Ks like you've got your hands filled with that one.

I see she did at least have the handle pivot spring assembly replaced. ~~LOL~~

Cheers & hagn all,

Bill

Bill, I'll be glad to remove these wheels and send them to you for your sample box! LOL! I need to put some proper wheels on it anyway in order to check to see that the TechDrive is working properly. I was a little curious about the handle pivot spring assembly too. My secretary told me that she'd had some work done on it in the past, but she was never clear about what was done. However, I also remember reading somewhere that Kirby phased out the original assembly design later in the G3 production in favor of the current design (which is on this G3). The serial number indicates that this vacuum was manufactured in June 1991. I don't know if the change over would have been made by then. Or if it's a figment of my aging mind!
