Nice :)

Hey Fred

I thought that would come up well - defiantly a hidden diamond :).

As I put on your AW thread, thats a post 77 version going on the fact that design of height adjuster first appeared over here with the U1012/U1016 Dirtsearcher both of which made their debut in 77.

Its odd US versions have the sticker on the base. The only UK models from the original 1334 to my late model U1012 with the sticker there are the original 1346(your 1340??)and the 1st Dirtsearcher 1354- both of which normally have it missing/worn. All the others have the plate/sticker under the front cover to the left of the belt opening.

1977?

Seamus dude!! :D:D:D:D:D

I thought the U1012 was a late 1975 early 76 introduction? I know my older one is may 76 iirc.

Don't mean to be pedantic! LOL

Hope you are well and life is treating you properly, as it should mate.

Will call you some point this week.

Happy hoovering cap'n.

Clark.

Thanks for all of the info!

I couldn't remember which way the bumper went on, so went with it... good eye for catching that it's incorrect! I'll be switching it back shortly.

I would like to find a set of tools for this at some point... I'm not in any hurry, I doubt I'll be dusting my house with it. But they'd be fun to have. In fact, I think I have a hose for a junior -- I recall having an Ultraflex hose that has a rather large, funny-looking aluminum adapter affixed to one end of it. But I think there's a converter that needs to hook onto the machine in order for the hose to properly attach.

What's the suction/airflow like, anyways? Better or worse than a Convertible?

Rick~ I did not see the set of tools on eBay... :-( Oh well, there will be more.

Now, I shall scan and post my Junior Spec-Sheets that I just found...

Scan Time!

I was fortunate enough to get a HUGE binder of old spec-sheets from the Hoover store I used to work at... Full of mostly 70s and 80s uprights, canisters, polishers, and all of the small appliances... So, of course, I had these... which I thought I'd scan and share! Enjoy!

Hello Fred,

Love the junior and your display area; I'd love to see your upright display area.

Every 2nd or 3rd house in Britain seemed to have a 1300 series junior when I was a boy, it was replaced in 78/79 with the lacklustre U1036.

I think I may have the UK instructions for the 1348 and some cleaning tool adaptor parts ?

Well done !!

Regards from land locked middle England.

Walter.

Group Shot!

This must be the 1977 or 1978 product lineup... whichever year, it was the last year with the Dial A Matics as top of the line cleaners. But the type-A bag had just come out, on the U4103 and U4101. The U4101 is the cleaner that started it all for me. My parents bought one in April of 1979 (which I still have)... it's the very first vacuum I remember.

They obviously didn't proof this picture very well, I would assume that's the cord for the Junior wrapped up and sticking up behind the cleaner in the picture.

U1025

Here's the other model we had.. which Rick mentioned in his post above. I think I've also seen this model with a plain brown bag, perhaps it was a replacement bag? I absolutely love the plaid bag!

Backside!

You can see on the front side, the newer height adjustment knob, which Seamus mentioned in his post...

The hose that I mentioned having is completely different than the one in this picture. I'll have to find it and take a picture of that, too.

Hose...

Here's the hose I have. I have never really known for sure which cleaner it went to. It looks totally different than the hoses pictured in the above spec-sheets.
Could it just be a later replacement hose? I assume I still need an adapter for it...?

Here's a picture that Kevin, one of the washer boys took... and put together of me with my vacuums, when we had the big wash-in back in May. It gives you an idea of the upright room, which is still sort-of in progress.

Beautiful job Fred!!! What a fun little machine. At the first Chicago convention Ken W and I both won in the raffle. He took this machine and I took a much older Hoover. We ended up trading. Mine needed a new brush roll as it was all rusted out. I was lucky to find a brand new one. Great job!!!

Hose not later, but earlier

Fred,

It looks like a Junior hose, but for the earlier version, by the time of the 1348 it was a plastic connector. The earlier version used a slightly different convertor so the metal version may not fit the later. If you check out the spec sheet, you will see the convertor which you hold up to the front of the cleaner (having removed the plate of course) and twist it counter clockwise to lift the belt and lock the convertor in. The hose then goes straight in. The earlier convertor had a little handle on the locking ring and I seem to think (may be wrong) that it turned clockwise.

The suction is at least as good as the convertable, and probably a bit better, as the hose goes right up to and cobers the fan chamber.

Seamus is right though, yours has the later height adjustment control, as seen in your 1977 group shot, as compared to the spec sheet.

This basic design continued for amost 25 years from the 1334, through to the U1012 which was discontinued as a Hoover mainstrean model in 1977, although it lived on for another 5 or 6 years as a catalogue exclusive and even had a hardbag incarnation - Rob or Paul posted a picture of this recently.

This picture was taken in 2007, the top cleaner is a catalogue 1346 (not new style height control) which is the green combo I referred to earlier, along with the first 1346 and the rare 1016. From the U1012 (which looks like the 1981 version but with a yellow bag rather than the golfing trousers version you had) Juniors in the UK had a top fill bag

Wow..

Verrry nice..!!

Fred, what do you use on the bumpers to make them look so nice? I find just soaking mine in warm water with some sort of detergent does next to nothing at all. Thanks!

Erm My bad........

Hey Clark

My "Proper" U1012 is indeed from Feb 1976.........

I stand corrected *Blush*

Seamus
