My small collection of Kenmore Canisters

It seems as of late I really enjoy picking up Kenmore Canisters! The Premier cleaned up really nice compared to how it was when I found it. The Whispertone EVPC still sees regular use in my home. The 200 Series is the only one of the group I bought brand new and I quite enjoy using it from time to time. The Elite 800 Crossover was the best deal I have had since after buying the cleaner and a used wand off of eBay I have about $45 in the cleaner and sees the most use out of the bunch, and finally the most recent find is the Magic Blue and it’s a neat little canister for sure.

I find that some Kenmore canisters are beautiful and although they're cheaper than the tanks from Miele, Sebo and Aerus, some participants of the forum stated that with maintenance and proper care, people get to continue using them for around ten years after purchase. One complain that I would have with them is that different accessories are compatible with different models from Kenmore and there are no adaptors that let people use 1 1/4" accessories with the models that don't accept them. Another problem is that it is said that the Power Mate Jr's are of poor quality.

Of the five canisters you showed us, the first two ones are the most appealing to me.

Thanks for sharing your Kenmore Canister Vacuum Collection! Love each of them and I really want to add the Crossover to my collection too! I keep checking it out and thinking I better buy it before our Sears store closes.

I do have a few Kenmore but I only have one canister, all the others are Upright style and stick vacuums. But I really have to admit I love the Kenmore Model 125.81614 bagged Canister in a cool purple color. It was a Christmas gift from my husband in 2016, I was so surprised as I’d looked at it in the store only once but he noticed and remembered and bought it without me knowing. I love the quality of build and materials it’s made of and it is very quiet too. It cleans my carpets and flooring beautifully and since you reminded me of it, I got mine out of “storage” in the spare bedroom and will be using it for a while as my daily vacuum.

Have you used the QR code inside the vacuum bag compartment to order new bags? I did and it was pretty convenient, took me right to the Sears website and the bags were cheaper than Amazon so I ordered them. Just wondered as I wish ALL vacuum companies would at the very least put a QR code or label listing the Bag type and Belt type right on the vacuum, or for bagless, the filter numbers.

Thanks for sharing your collection and they are really nice vacuums.. do you have a favorite out of them and what is your honest opinion on the Crossover? I’d love to hear from someone that owns it how they like it and any issues, etc. I own the Kenmore Crossover Ultra Bagless Model 116.10335510 and I really love it for a bagless... not a huge fan of bagless but this one is a great vacuum! I have attached pics of it as well so you can see, I would use it more often but I am kinda saving it as I really love it and it is rather loud too.

Nice vacuums! I grew up with Kenmore canister vacuums and an upright, so they tend to be my favorite vacuum based on that.

I remember seeing a dark green version of your teal one at Sears as a kid, on clearance for $99. I tried to convince my parents to let me get it with my birthday money, because I really wanted my own Kenmore.

Fast forward to 2012 and I finally got my own Kenmore canister, a red Progressive on clearance at a Sears for $99. Ironic I guess.

I really like your gray Whispertone. That was TOL in its day and has the nice Ametek Dual Stage motor. My aunt I believe still has hers she got in 1993.

I like your Crossover too. I wouldn't mind having that or the Plush model.

Patrick, I like your purple canister too. I've looked at those Crossover uprights. There's been that model one at my Sears that was a return for a while, and they keep marking it down. I've been thinking about getting it if it stays long enough to go under $100.

As for mine, I own the red Progressive canister, a lime green one I got on sale for $99 but its still in the box. I also have a Sanyo made straight suction one from 1983. I've always wanted one of the avocado Sears Best ones with the woodgrain top. But they're rare anymore. I also have a sky blue 2005 jellybean model but it's not in great condition. I might donate that one.

My mom still has her 1999 Whispertone in hunter green and its still going. I repaired the power nozzle socket and it still gets used regularly.

Piece of junk...

I bought a burgundy Progressive brand new for my then-fiance, now ex-wife in December 2001. It was the sorriest piece of crap I ever saw and the worst waste of $375 I ever made. It is the reason I so vehemently hate plastic vacuum cleaners. The thing did great picking up cat hair from oriental rugs, but it simply was not constructed to withstand even moderate household use. I was relieved to leave it and my ex behind two years later.

My Late brother

loved all Sears products. My sister-in-law had cocoa brown matching "Lady Kenmore" laundry set, vacuums, (coupled with Eureeeeeka and even an old Hamilton Beach canister. They also had a HOOVER "Convertible" that she rarely used. Although it outlast them all, even my brother!
