My Sanitaire Family Picture

It's rare that I have all five of my Sanitaire vacuums together at the same building, so I decided to take a family picture of the five of them together. They are, from left to right, an sc889, an sc679 with a black base and bag, another sc679 with a red base and bag, an s635, and an s675.

I love using my Sanitaire vacuums. The s675 is my favorite to use at home. The black sc679, with its black Eureka base, is my favorite daily driver at work. The red sc679, with its handle from an old s634, is very lightweight and easy to use for long periods of vacuuming classrooms.

They all have vibragroomer I or II brushrolls. The 679s run F&G bags, while the other three run ST bags. They all do outstanding work on my home and school carpeting.

Beautiful Sanitaires! The only way one can buy a classic Eureka upright anymore. It's too bad they don't offer any models with a headlight anymore..... not sure why they discontinued that feature....

Headlights on Sanitaire Vacuums

I believe you still get a headlight if you buy a blue line s647 or s675. The two shops near me still sell both models with headlights. None of my 5 amp vacuums have headlights, nor does the 2 speed sc889. Since I use those vacuums mostly at work, I don't really miss the headlight.

The headlight is one of the reasons the s675 is my favorite vacuum to use at home.

That's an awesome family photo! How do they compare/contrast? When was each manufactured?

Regarding the headlight issue I'm thinking that the Sanitaire model IDs with the S prefix are manufactured primarily for professional cleaning (home cleaning businesses) and those with the SC prefix are for commercial cleaning. It seems that many companies do not put headlights on vacs made for commercial use, because they aren't advantageous (think fluroescent lights) and are more prone to breaking due to potential rugged use.

I almost got a Eureka commercial vac at a secondhand store a couple years ago. Are they much different from Sanitaires?

Okay...that's good to know. I thought Sanitaire had discontinued the blue line. So glad they haven't!!!

Blue Line Sanitaire

I'm glad they still have blue line Sanitaire vacuums, too. I just stopped by vacshack.com's brick and mortar store, and noticed they had an s647 and an s675 on display. They already know what I usually want when I walk in.

Four of my Sanitaires are less than five years old. The fifth one, the red sc679, I actually pieced together with extra parts last week. I had the red base leftover from when I put the black base on my first sc679, so I built up a vacuum around it. The biggest difference between the red sc679 that I built and a real sc679 is the black plastic handle, but it works well enough. It's fun to use a vacuum that I put together myself.

As far as performance is concerned, the three 5 amp vacuums work the same, though the s635 has better airflow due to its st bag. The two 7 amp vacuums work the same, other than the stepdown speed on the sc889. I like the 5 amp machines better on the work carpet and the 7 amp vacuums at home.

sanitaire backpack

I have 6 backpack vacuums, and the sanitaire sc535a is probably my favorite one, very quiet and powerful.

Backpack Vac

I'd love to try a Sanitaire backpack vac. My school has Proteam Tail backpack vacuums. They are powerful, but their tiny paper bags quickly get clogged by the fine, powdery clay dust that gets tracked in from the playground. I only do custodial work on the weekends, and find my Sanitaires pull up a lot of dirt that is left behind by the backpack vacuums.

I don't think there was a Sanitaire version of that Precision, I know Eureka made one of red ones privately labeled as Ridgidaire.

Eureka 1934b

I've had the Eureka 1934b, and at the heart it truly was an sc679. The 1934b is a great value at Amazon. If it came with a slightly longer cord, it would be nearly perfect for my home needs. At first, I used it with a 2-wire 20 foot appliance extension cord from Wal-Mart which largely made up for the short cord. I later replaced the cord with a longer 2-wire cord.

I don't know about that, I can't clarify if it's 100% true. I'm quite familiar with Eureka and Sanitaire because they're one of my favorite brands. I used to look at brochures and ads on Sanitaires that my buddy shared with me when he was a Saitaire dealer but I never heard or seen a Sanitaire version of the Eureka Pricision.
