My Review of the Shark Rocket Powerhead

I've been going back and forth the past few months trying to decide whether or not to give this thing a chance and I finally went for it. I enjoy buying new vacuums that are innovative and the Powerhead definitely is!

There are several different models of the Powerhead, depending on where you purchase it. I found that Bed, Bath, and Beyond was the only store that carried it in electric blue and with the headlight, and for the same price as everywhere else! This also allowed me to take advantage of their 20% off coupons, on top of the sale price of $169. I also had a $20 gift card so I left with the Shark for $134. I decided that if I didn't like it I could easily sell it locally and make the money right back.

I live in a decently small apartment so the size of the vacuum is perfect for me. I could easily store it under my bed if I wanted to. I have a feeling that this will be a very popular vacuum with college students like myself.

The Shark features 2 speeds, one acts as a "gentle sweep" for bare floors and rugs, and the second as a "deep clean." With the bare floor brushroll installed the first speed is a lot of fun and feels effective. You don't end up with dirt and crumbs scattered all around the floor behind you.

Here is a photo of the second brushroll storage. The plastic carrying case can be easily removed if the user does not wish to have it stored onboard. I find it convenient so I don't have to hunt it down every time I want to clean hard floors.

Similar to Dyson's, and just as effective I am sure. The bristles are incredibly soft.

This is what Shark calls the Brushroll Garage. With the push of two buttons the top cover opens up and the brushroll can be easily removed for cleaning or installation of the bare floor brush.

With the push of a button at the bottom of the handle, the back half of the vacuum pops up with the dust cup. Emptying this is incredibly easy. I thought this was a very important factor considering the dust compartment is pretty small. Unlike several other vacuums, the dirt falls right out and doesn't require you to stick your hands in and pick it all out.

Here is a photo of the dust compartment. It isn't huge, but it also isn't too small. I've been filling it up after going through my house once, which isn't a problem considering I empty my vacuums after each use.

All in all, I think that I'll really enjoying using this, it's incredibly convenient and incredibly powerful. You can hear it picking up deep down dirt that isn't visible to the eye.

A few things that I did not mention:

The wheels are all rubber coated, I always look for that in a vacuum.
The handle can be raised or lowered depending on the height of the user.
The cord isn't super long, but it also isn't too short. It seems to be just right for the type of vacuum.

Some things that I do not like:

When pulling back, sometimes the back of the vacuum will lift up.
Of course since it is Shark, it's only a single cyclone so the filter will get dirty pretty quickly. As a collector this isn't a problem obviously, but we will see how the general public takes a liking to it.


I would definitely recommend this vacuum to someone has a lot of rugs and/or bare floors, especially with the second brushroll. It would also make a great second floor vacuum since there are no tools and you can easily get under beds with it.

So far my impressions are good and I will be keeping it! If you have the extra money to spend I would recommend picking one up and seeing how you like it!

Neat, It reminds me of the old GE electric carpet sweeper and the battery B&D one.

I did look it up online and a guy has a youtube video posted.. It seems rather noisy though.. That would be a turn off for me although it's very tempting, can't stand noise.

I think that we are going to start seeing a lot more cleaners like this in the industry. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty excited to see what other companies come out with!

Miele did have the D'Art but it never had a brush roll. Suction floor head all the way and an ability to clog the bags since the channel was L shaped.
