Your machine looks good. I bought the same machine back in 1992-3. It still works just as good as the day I bought it.
The one thing about the Rainbow that has always surprised me is that I never felt the old power nozzles were that good. They pushed very easy and just seemed to not have the power that some of the other machines have on the carpet.
I think where my Rainbow WINS out over time is the fact that each and every time you have full air flow and suction and it did not decrease over time and use. I don't think this comes out to us because unlike regular users,we all keep our bags clean,filters clean and maintain our machines in top form.
I also have always been surprised when reading customer statements of their Rainbow and how long they last. You would think just the fact that they use water would limit their life and durability.
To me ,all Rainbows work about the same but that new model really is so much more user friendly and easy to use. It seems to be very well made compared to so many new vacs on the market.
Have you ever noticed how the Rainbow belts last so long? Some of my machines seem to need a new belt every 2-3 months. I still have the belt that came on my new machine almost 2 years ago and it gets daiy use.

Mine is really the only machine I have ever owned that never smells and has helped the allergy and asthema so much over time.
