Well, I have been looking to solve a problem and think I have found it with a Dirt Devil vacuum. Now I am a vintage vac guy but believe that the modern vacs are interesting as well. I vacuumed my second floor this weekend with a Hoover Model 51 tank and a Hoover Model 69 Convertible and found them to perform admirably.

My particular problem was quick pickups in my laundry room for a twice-a-day problem - my old dog, Ms. Bridget who loves to spread her food all over the floor while she picks through it, hard and soft food. I really didn't have the energy to pull out the central vac hose or a canister which is what it takes to pick up the clumps of soft food and the hard food. Here she is in action.

I Need Something Quick

I tried a Hoover Slider which is cordless and really fun and a good machine. My housekeeper Geneva (hard to please!) really liked this machine (Thanks Fred S!) It just isn't right for this problem because you have to lift it up to gobble up the hard food particles. The search continued . . .

Well Here Is The Solution

It is interesting that there was some talk about the Dirt Devil Broom Vac, because I had ordered one before the discussion on the forum and it arrived today. It performs great. It sweeps up all the big stuff in one fell swoop. I think it is a great solution to a very particular problem. We will see how it works in the long run!

I Wonder If Joan Would Have Liked It?

Definitely better than an unsanitary dust mop. Kind of reminds me of Helen (on the left) and me after a party at Tarantula Arms! So what was wrong with the tree being scrubbed and waxed?

2 machines

Hey there... we are talking about two different broom vacs here. Yours is the one for bare floors... they also had a previous version of this in the mid nineties... it was white. But there was a red bagged carpet "broom vac" as well... early to mid nineties and that is what the other guys were talking about in the other post... shape kind of reminds me of a Kirby... Dirt Devil has good ideas... just NO quality. It was marketed as a vac for apartments or a second upstairs vac. I can't find a picture of the actual machine... but here's a cartoon version on a package of bags.......

Dirt devil Brooomy!

I had one of those. Its was called a broomy in the UK.
I had a red one like the one on the packet and a black one which my granny has.
Its quit good for a small upright.
With it having a brush roll I found it cleaned better than a straight suction cleaner.

Might take a photo of it when I go over to see her next week.

James:-))

Very cool! I've seen those on TV and they apparently come in a whole lot of colors.

Terry has a Slider and really likes it for everyday pickups in the kitchen and such. I think I'm going to get one for that same reason.

The lack of bulk on the part of both these units make them ideal for their intended purpose.
