That is just beautiful. Just a little clean-up will probably reap big rewards. I agree about not washing the bag - the paint on the bag is likely very brittle and may not survive even a gentle washing. Just lightly vacuum or wipe the bag clean.

This vacuum is so classically Kirby. What a great find. Congratulations. And how nice that the store manager was so nice about it.

Congratulations!!

Bill what a wonderful find there. I can't wait to see this Kirby after you work your magic on it! Thank-you to our other Bill as well for the additional information on this machine! You are so right, not all Kirby dealers are out to take advantage of people!

I will say, the creeps that I was talking about earlier have never been Kirby dealers. To the contrary, I have known some very kind and generous Kirby dealers over the years.

I threw caution to the wind . . .

and washed the bag before reading the posts. I am happy to report that the screen printing came through with flying colors! I think the vacuum has remained in very good shape because it has sat in the vacuum store for many years (and before that a house). All the other ones that I've come across look like they'd been in someone's barn!

I thought about repainting the logo on another bag I have. I even have the paint, but I just haven't felt comfortable. Circles are not my thing! I would feel much more comfortable touching up this logo if I had to. Either that or I would pass it off to someone. No one in my family is remotely artistic.

Freshly Laundered Bag

I guess I am a lucky bag! The logo survived the hand laundering! I washed and rinsed. Washed and rinsed. Some of the black dye faded.

Yep. Incredible. You just have no idea how rare that bag is, with the gold 'stitching' across the top! I've never even seen one "in real life," only in old Kirby literature.

Cord

Bill (Eurekastar)
I have a Model 505 that has the same cord as the one in your pictures. It does not have the KIRBY logo either, so I didn't think it was original, but now that I have seen yours I'm wondering if it is the original type. Maybe back in the beginning KIRBY didn't put the logo on the cord. Does anybody know? I attached a few pics of the one I have.

I'm not sure whether or not that is a replacement cord but it may be. I will say, I have two 505s and they both have type of cord - exactly.

However, I have a 2C which came with a black cord with the old fashioned round "screw-terminal" type of plug on both ends. It has a metal 'loop' to hang the cord but it's different than the later versions. The metal loop is attached to a collar about 1/2" long that slides along the cord -- e.g., not a molded "loop holder" like the later cords.

And I have instruction booklets for the 2C, 3C and 4C, and they all show the same type of cord that came with my 2C.

Of course we know how notorious Kirby was for recycling photos for subsequent models' manuals, which is really frustrating as it makes it impossible to nail down model specifics such as this.

So, while the "screw-terminal" plug may have been used for the 2C, it could have been changed anywhere from the 3C to the 505.

I believe the first model with a Kirby logo on the plug was the 509.

Well, this morning I was fiddling around with the headlight trim, trying to see if it could be removed. And I removed it alright! It was more fragile than I had realized and it broke apart in three pieces. I wasn't even doing any major tugging and pulling! I was just gently moving it down because it pivots on two rivets and it just broke.

Nice 2C

Your 2C looks great and I know your very excited. From this club I know that they are very rare. Awhile back I had a Kirby G4 but I sold it to a man who really needed it. My collection started with Kirby, but now I am turning more towards the Hoovers. But Kirby's are still among my favorites.
