All (most) of the attachments. I will get a dust brush from a CIII.

And the crevice tool will get replaced. its a little chewed up. Oh well, I do not use it enough. I will keep it though, as it is original.

What is the clear tube thingy? Demother?

It has the dust nozzle thing too! (sorry for my "thing" terminology. I have no idea what else to call it!)

Your Kirby "Things"

Brandon,

The clear tube is the Crystalator.

It is used to demoth (if you use the crystals and put them inside of it) and the crystal power is drawn through the crevice tool (with brush tip removed) connected to the hose at the blower outlet (where you attach the Sani Em-Tor to).

Dust nozzle thing? Kirby calls it the Utility Air Nozzle. A version with the brush was known as the Utility Brush Nozzle. A Dusting Brush (the rounded one) is also included.

The 519 was the first Kirby in which the hose's collar and suction coupler were made of plastic instead of metal, although the coupler was still detachable until the Dual Sanitronic 50 introduced in 1965.

But when I said the dust nozzle thing, I ment the thing that you put on the nozzle and use it to dust hard floors, it has a spongy felt side, and you disengage the brush roll (of which mine is original) and slip this on.

If that is what you meant.

As you can see, I am a total newbie to these old kirbys.

2 weeks ago, my oldest vacuum I ever had was the hoover 800 (still is)

3 weeks ago, my oldest vac was a Heritage II.

So as you can see, I have not had much experience.

Don't wash the bag.

Put that bag in a washing machine and you WILL be sorry!

Nice Kirby

Hi Brandon Very nice Kirby I just got a 519from a very dear feiend in just about mint condition. DONT WASH THE BAG .He did amd it did effect the Kirby logo some what. Enjoy it i love the 500 series. My life long wish is to get a 505 with the red and black bag thats what started me with my love for Kirbys. Have you used any of the G series yet they do a WONDERFUL JOB on the rugs. This is fun to watch. It does not even move if you push on it.

Its actually hard to get close to things on the right side, as the bag is so big, it sticks farther than the nozzle! lol

I first vacuumed both rooms as well as I could with my Vax X5 bagless. Cost me $60. And was a TOL for them.

Bag and Cord

Brandon if you love using that machine and don't want to mess up the original bag and cord I would suggest picking up a replacement cord to use and keep put the other one aside to preserve it. Also you can pick up the sani-emptors on ebay and install a Kirby replacment bag on it for use to preserve that really nice bag.

Bulb and Book

Brandon I just bought a replacement bulb for my Classic and Dual 50 at the Hardware store today. Two bulbs and CA tax was $4.26 out the door. I have a 518 or 519 book which I am not willing to part with but can scan or copy for you.

bulbs

I need a bulb too. What kind does the 518 use?

Bulb

You can get the bulb at just about any hardware store. They're 125V, 15w and usually marked as a Vacuum Cleaner or "Appliance" bulb. It'll have a brass barrel around it with 2 contacts on the end. They're common as dirt.

That bag shouldn't be hard when the machine is running. If it's hard, it's because the pores are clogged and it's not working as well as it should. You can hand wash it in warm water, although I've successfully washed them in the washer on the delicate cycle. I don't have a modern washer, so I'm sure that has a LOT to do with my success too. No "Shredmore" for me, thanks!

If you wash the bag, be sure to use fabric softener in the final rinse, or when you wash it with clear water in the sink (depending on how you're washing it). It'll make the fabric softer and it will actually filter better. If the bag is washed well, you won't see dust escape when you thump it while the machine is running.
