Here's an unboxing and photo roll of when I bought my Hoover 700 Special for $75.99 on eBay On 10/20/2017. Photos are from 10/28/17 12:24pm - 2:34am on 10/29/17. Yes, I know it was a steep price, but this was my dream vacuum ever since I first seen one on YouTube in 2007 or 2008. I always wanted one, and I'd never be able to find one of these in my city, as there just isn't old stuff like this here. I checked eBay for a few months and any old Hoovers of this era were all $100-$150 with shipping on eBay - waaaayyyy out of my budget. When I seen this Hoover up for the price, I just had to grab it.
I have not powered it on since I bought it, as I am waiting for summer to inspect it and make sure it's safe and hopefully give it a cleaning and tune-up. (also because there is a piece of dead snake skin stuck in a spider web on the bottom of the vacuum - yikes!) The seller bought the vacuum along with another odd brand from an estate and then promptly flipped it on eBay (and then I bought it). It had a friend made by Federal Electric that was being sold in a separate auction that was aged the same as this Hoover, so I assume they came from the same owner and house originally and were always together. However, the seller wanted too much for it after deviating and increasing the original agreed-upon price I suggested for it and after paying out $76 for this vacuum I just didn't have that kind of money so I left it behind.
I would like to thank Phaeton for setting me up with a pair of handle screws for this vacuum back in November, I have not installed them yet as they will be put on once I do the cleanup and inspection on it.
The vacuum was rebuilt in the 1930's if I remember, so it does have a lot of mismatched parts that were in Hoover's warehouse at the time (shame, I really like that Hoover H switch)
So without further ado, here she is! Photo descriptions coming up...
Pic #1 - The box on my porch, it comes up to my windows!
Pic #2 - Wide shot of the box, this certainly is not live flowers!
Pic #3 - The vacuum in the box, seller skimped a bit on packaging but it was braced.
Pic #4 - Whatever could this strange plastic mummy be?
Pic #5 - ...why it's an antique hoover!
Pic #6 - The bottom of the vac is really clean for its age
Pic #7 - The rebuild marker writing - it didn't show up on camera good
Pic #8 - "The Hoover Special" refurb plate
Pic #9 - The Hoover bag - it's a weird kind of soft felt-like cloth, not sure what you call it and I haven't seen any photos of another bag like this on Google
Pic #10 - The Servant of the Home logo amongst the dirt
Pic #11 - The model tag and serial # (it looks like it has a 1.7 amp motor)
