My "new" gift!

Our one and only gracious John Long has gifted me a Hoover. He found it and immediately thought about me as he knows I like power head canisters.

It arrived dirty but with a few hours of work it has cleaned up very well. Serial number says it was made in May 1999. Despite being a plastic style vac, it has certainly held up well and came out very well in my mind. This Hoover Windtunnel S3630 canister needs a bag, belt and bulb and it is ready to run. Additionally eventually down the line I'll get a tool lid, upholstery nozzle and dusting brush.

Sorry about no before shots. I actually had not intended to work on this today but my belt broke on my Hoover Celebrity canister so that jump started me into repair mode. Gave the Hoover Celebrity a new belt, and greased its agitator bearings. Then I greased the agitator bearings on my Hoover Convertible. Last week at John's house, Matt seemed to think the brush roll wasn't doing well so I'm hoping tonights work made a difference.

And of course as you can see this Hoover Windtunnel canister was also in the midst. Had to vacuum the whole machine first with my Hoover Dimension 1000 canister. There were cobwebs and all sorts of stuff from whomever the previous owner was. Then with rags, sponges, Barkeepers Helper, Armstong cleaner water in sink, and other supplies I went to work. Both motor armatures and all 4 carbon brushes look good. Suction motor sounds good. I think power head motor sounds good but haven't listened to it with belt and brush roll attached yet. Powerhead was caked with a layer of brown gunk. The belt looked 1.5 x longer than it should and no bulb installed in headlight socket.

For the suction unit, the bag was overflowing with all sorts of what looks like rice inside but was actually soft junk, perhaps insect wings. No clue, don't want to know what it was, just glad its gone. Both filters were destroyed. I reglued seems of weather stripping on motor cover, filters are replaced and all has been cleaned. A few basic parts as listed in first post and it will be ready for service. Just not sure where it will be stored yet!!!

I'm glad to see what you have done with that vacuum. Another HOOVER saved.
I didn't clean it up because: I had no time, I knew you'd do it better and completely thoroughly.

I've known you for nearly a decade and I have NEVER once known you to be "One for me, one for me, one for me, none for you" at all!

You are one of the most generous people I've ever met! I've acquired several cleaners from you over the years, as have many others who have been to your pristine palace of a home for mini meets and get togethers. Not to mention your hospitality. I still can't get over the fact that you tolerated having Rob and me in your home until 4am at the last mini meet. Any later and your upstairs would have been turned into a Motel 6!

Rob, the machine looks fantastic!! I can hardly believe that it's the same cleaner that emerged from John's basement almost a week ago.

Can't wait to see it all reassembled. You'll have to bring it back for a visit when you come out for John's Monster Mash Bash Round Two!

There are lots of hidden treasures in the House of Hoover. AND, if you're lucky enough to be let into the kitchen, the tasty treats almost outnumber the cleaners!

"Come to the basement" indeed. Unknown horrors dwell below the floors of the Palace! Cellar dwellers that do not bear the "Red Badge of Honor" EEEEEEEK!!!!!

Bring gloves and a HazMat suit to remove such atrocities from the Hoover House!

In terms of servicing, Jeff's store really is the best in the area. There isn't a single brand they can't fix!

Back to the vacuum: It sure looked like a nice HOOVER. I immediately thought of you when I procured it. I'm NOT that much of a canister guy, (exceptions: Connies and Slimlines).
Enjoy. To quote my CLOSE friend, Tom:' Give forward". And, I'll continue to do so.
There WILL be approx 50 vacuums leaving here soon, not touching the "collection".

Oh yes, it will appear at the Monster Bash! Not sure if I'll have all attachments by then but atleast reassembled and functioning from what it is now.

John, you have always been caring and giving! Always enjoy visiting your home for great food, meeting new friends, seeing all the Hoovers and overall taking in the welcoming atmosphere!

I was confused when I first read the other post about the canister but when I saw it, I immediately recognized what model it was. Great machine. I would not have expected you to clean it up John. You love all things Hoover but are more privy to the more classic ones, and especially to their uprights. I didn't mind cleaning it up. As I'm sure you know, I've worked on many of this style as well so it's an easy thing.

Daring to go that the basement of yours. Who knows what awful cellar dwellers could be there. Eliminate the curses!

I am curious about some of the 50!!

Not that I have room, but I am curious about some of those 50 leaving. You mentioned about 10 makes the other day, so the other 40 are a mystery, just like all things in the basement, who knows what goes on or is buried down there: Mowers, Hoovers, dwellers, ghosts, goblins, bones all the works!!

I'm like that "Curiosity killed the Cat" expression. My mind wanders into learning, seeing and exploring new things. Who knows what Hoovers you may have that I have never seen before!! Additionally with my Real Estate background, your basement layout sounds like one of the coolest structural designs ever. I definitely have to check that out some day.

You'll have to freshly bless the house once the evil machines leave the premises! Incase any need to come back up the stairs to exit through the main house, then you'll have to stock up on some extra Lysol Disinfectant!!

Start collecting extra Lysol coupons now!! Beware of people like "me", you never know what kind of trouble we might cause always utilizing coupons and scoping out the best deals!

Congrats... I always thought those had a really aggressive power nozzle good for deep cleaning... We had them for sale at Sears when I sold vacuums there, but I never sold one as they couldn't compete with the feature list of the Kenmores... they were the same price and the Hoover lacked things the Kenmores had like fingertip power switches, height adjusts on the power nozzle, quick release on the power nozzle, direct connect wands, an electric mini-tool, geared belts with overload protection... and the power nozzle of the Hoover Windtunnel bagged canister we had squeaked and creaked, so when people saw it, they always wanted the Pannymores instead... but it still is a powerful cleaner and so nice to have gotten such a fun gift from a dear friend! If I remember right, if you turn the machine on and don't have a firm grip the the handle, the power nozzle will fly out of your hands and race across the room (or as far as it can get until it's stopped by the weight of the canister LOL)... much like my Celebrity power nozzle...

Thanks for the nice remarks everyone. It is fully assembled with a bag, belt and HEPA S bag today. Will get another photo. Whole machine runs great. The power heads are very powerful.

While I do realize that the Hoovers didn't have as many features as the Kenmores with the fancy stuff, I do think that they clean better. The Kenmores clean good, but my experience is that the Windtunnel definitely cleans better with the powerhead. Some things I attribute to that are the suction duct extending around the belt, dual side edge groomers, longer agitator bristles and better carpet seal. I've tried several CenTec heads. If you put a CenTec head on a flat table you'll notice that it slopes to the side, it is not an even height off a surface. Additionally the X-low carpet height does not get as low as the automatic height adjust of the Hoover heads. I also like that the Hoover heads remain seated on the floor no matter how far down you lower the handle.

I have always thought that Kenmore canisters tend to outsell others on the market is because there is at least 1 model on sale in a circular about 14 out of 15 weeks throughout the year. You could nearly always see a Kenmore canister on sale at Sears in the Sunday paper every week. Trying to find another branded canister vac on sale-- maybe once every 7 weeks or so from a Boscovs, or Strawbridges years ago.

FilterQueen is doing well. I sold 2 of each machine this past Friday. Thanks for asking. I enjoy educating consumers and providing a better cleaning, healthier filtering machine aside from some of the $70 cheap units that they think are doing the job and clearly are not!!
