Modern Hygiene

Yep indeed, that is a Modern Hygiene. I got it off of eBay but the condition isn't what I expected. However the canister itself is a work of art. The vac shop I got the chrome top from has mounds of machines. If I find another chrome top I will let people know.

Robert

That is a beautiful Eureka! I've been looking for one of those for a long time and haven't had any luck around here! Alex, good eye I spotted that MH too!

What year was it made? Im guessing early to mid 1970s?
A neighbor lady we had in around 74-75 had one of these, only no chrome top, just the light blue with the dark blue bumper and trim, but it did have the eact same bag, Dial-a-Nap, handle, and rocker On/Off switch.

She was elderly, and would give me a bottle of pop if i would come over and run her vacuum for her, she had deep shag carpet, but i found out the vac did a better job if it were set on the LOW setting, rather than the SHAG setting. Her belt was probablly weak.

I remember liking the humm of the motor.

I also remember the hose/tool suction being really really poor, but the vac sure did an excellent job on her deep shag.

HA, i remember that shag carpet was dark purple and dark blue. Was the kind you had to rake up with a special plastic carpet rake, then vacuum, then rake again.
(all that work for a bottle of pop? Dumb Kid!, oh well, i had fun doing it.)

That carpet Was beautiful as long as no one walked across it!

Dating Eureka Dial-a-Nap uprights is sometimes a challenge because the feature was around for quite a while starting in the late 1960's I think.

One clue to timing is the rocker foot switch, which I think was replaced by a simple push button by the mid 1970's. Another clue is the lack of cooling vents on the hood - again I think these vents showed up in the mid 1970's. The third clue is the model number - these basic Dial-a-Nap uprights with the classic 3-level hood took on the model number series 1400 in about 1974, just when Sweden's Electrolux bought the company.

Therefore, I would propose a date of anywhere between 1970 and 1972! :-)

Oh... one more dating clue for Eureka: when Sweden's Electrolux bought Eureka Williams in 1974, the corporate name changed from Eureka Williams to simply The Eureka Company. You can see the name on the metal nameplate.

chrome

I didnt photograph it, but I also have a commercial model that is an orange base and gray bag. That shop also had the light blue and dark blue color scheme model with the hood vents. They had it marked thirty bucks. Inside there was also a tan and cream colored Eureka cordaway branded under Montgomery Ward. I dont think it was for sale, he may have been keeping it for his collection.

I love her

It was love at first sight when I spotted her standing stoically in the goodwill.
I ran over & put my arms around her scooping her up so that no one else could
claim my precious find.
Challantly I plugged her in to hear the roar of her heart beat
Mmmmmmmmm she purred & it was music to my ears.
I kept her close to me & under my watchful eye as I breathlessly laid my money down & she was mine.
Carried her out to the faitful Volvo where she fit just right in the back seat....

Getting her cleaned up & soon we'll twirl arou7nd in the dance of dust....

I do l;ove my vacs

LOL

Awesome

The dance of dust, thats hilarious! Theres just nothing like chrome on vacuums, it really dresses them up. Ive never found anything that classic at a thrift store. My vacs are like children, Im very protective of them. As for dancing with vacuums how about: Cobweb Calypso, Dust Bunny Waltz, Tracked-In-Dirt Tango, etcetera

Love the brushroll

Vibra groom 1
replacement $50
I knew she was special but had no idea it was that old.
True old vacs are hard to find.
This is one of my best finds only second to a mid 50's Hoover upright in blue.
Loved the deep roar of the motor.

This motor has a nice deep sound too.

Have to clean up the brush roll & area uhderneath
pop on a new belt
& attach her fresh washed bag & go for a spin.

Yeah

Dance of dust!
Eureka Mombo....

LOL
