My new baby is here...

After a long wait, finally got to pick this up yesterday (this was an eBay purchase from a while back, Charles posted a link to the auction in one thread).

It's in beautiful condition, could use a cleaning however. Yesterday I washed the cloth bag by hand and let it dry in the sun (80+ degrees outsie so it dried quickly!). Had to do that since it smelled a little too old and musty. It also has that weird white moldy stuff on the dusting brush and on the plastic clamps that secure the machine to the dolly.

Now for the one bad thing...I haven't been able to test it out at all. The cord is totally unsafe, the eBay seller was lucky he didn't electrocute himself or set his (beatiful) home on fire! The cord is completely petrified, cracked, and showing plenty of wires and insulation. Guess I'll have to wait and get the cord replaced sometime.

btw the white stuff on the plastic attachments is mold -- it will come right off if you wipe with Clorox, then rise well.

what is the deal with ge tools and mold, ive seen that on older pink tools like this, and green 1960s tools, all white and splotchy

That's just beautiful! I love to play with the fun old toys, and display then, daily I tend to go to newer/easier for me.My aunt had one of those, I would say around 60 maybe guys?? Just a guess, no idea how long she had it.I love the pics and machine.

Even though you paid more than the seller did for this pink beauty, I'm sure you'll be happy with it for years to come.

About the mold: various people have posted here about it. It had something to do with the components they used in the plastic. I think it may be in the "Cycolac" compound. Maybe somebody else could comment.

This is the vacuum that I grew up with. Does anyone know what year it was made? I was born in '57 and that vacuum has been around for as long as I can remember. I think it may still be in Mom's basement somewhere but who knows what kind of shape it's in by now! Ours had the same white moldy stuff on the attachments, too (when the attachments could be found!) I'd love to get this and my parent's 1940's Emerson Jr. oscillating fan to restore.

I was looking for secret messages from a007kirbyman, and thought there would be one here. Nice machine! The Swivel-top looks brand new. So complete too. Good job.

Looks like it is in excellent condition, except for the cord. And so complete, with the box and paperwork! I have the same model, but mine doesn't look quite as nice. After you replace the cord you'll find it is a really powerful machine! Congrats,

What a nice machine.

I have the very same vac, but it is missing the rubber bumper that wraps around the dolly.

My parents had this machine when I was a little kid, and retired it in the late 60s when they had avocado plush wall to wall carpeting put down and bought a new Kirby Classic.

Once you get the cord repaired, you will really like the vac.
