My Lux is turning itself off during regular vacuuming???

My Electrolux AP280 ( chocolate brown and white)is turning itself off while I am vacuuming. I turn the switch off and then on again and it will run for a few minutes and then shut itself off again?

This Lux has a switch for high and low motor speed.

It runs fine on low but shuts off on high.
It has a fresh bag and fliter.
How do I fix this so the vac will run correctly?

Hmm.

I'm not familiar with this model of Canadian Lux, so bear with me here.

If this is an automatic machine that stops and opens its bag door when the bag is full, then something could be wrong with the Automatic Control mechanism. The Automatic Control can be a little tricky. If you look at the frame around the bag door, you will see something that looks like a little horn, made of rubber. Clean it. If that doesn't cure the problem, then perhaps others here can lend some expertise; I'm no expert.

If it is not an automatic machine, something could be wrong with the switch or the wiring. Running for a few minutes and shutting down on one speed and not the other sounds like a possible switch problem.

Brad I know what is wrong I have had numerous AP280s do this to me all you have to do is replace the connectors between the door and bag chamber after time they become oxidized and no longer make full contact. So if you go down to your local vac shop they should have exactilly what you are looking for. But be warned some you will have to solder the wires into the connector and let me tell you that can be a real pain in the a%# but ya I am almost 100% sure that's whats wrong thanks. Zach

I second what the Zach man has advised as well. Also, sometimes the vac lines that connect to the full bag indicator can become clogged and or the actual valve itself the rubber and or plastic can become brittle and crack and cause problems.

on the vac lines that work the shut-off mechanism....look for clogging or deterioration. At least that's common on the US models...
