My Latest Vac Purchase...

Just got this the other day. A Dyson DC23 MotorHead. Purchased it from a good friend who only used it a few times and took very good care of it. Came with a bunch of attachments, manual and paprer work as well as additional floor tools.

I haven't had a chance to really play with it much since I haven't had a day off work since it got here but, I'll give it a good run this weekend at a local mini-meet that I'll be attending. The telescopic wand contraption isn't removable from the hose on the MotorHead model and I can see that becoming an issue during some cleaning tasks. Other than that I like it. Very good suction.

Let us know what you think of it. I've always wanted a Dyson cannister model but that hose handle looks too unwieldy too me. Also what is that 3-4" thing that wraps around the hose (in the pic right beside the dusting brush)?

I've also thought the same thing with the handle issue..

I believe that the DC23 Turbohead allows you to detach the handle all the way. Very sharp looking DC27 by the way!

That's a good looking DC23, can't wait to hear your opinion on it.

The part on the hose is the swivil point for the handle. When the wands are extended, it sets right up against the handle. When the wands are colapsed you gain a bit more hose length.

Also yes the TurbineHead models do allow for the wand and handle to disconnect from the hose. When detached the hose end looks just like the one on an upright.

have you opened the swivel before? i have thought of doing it on my dc21 and have wondered if it can be used as an access for clog removal to (its a huge pain in the but to do it normally). and on the dc23 you can detach the wand and the seperate grip-wish they were all like that. have you found that the power head grooms well but doesnt grip the carpet?

I've never tried to take the hose apart. As for the power nozzle, mine seems to seal quite well to carpeting. It doesn't pull itself though. I'm not sure if the 21 and 23 use the same power nozzle or not. There noisy little things but do groom well and are very manuverable.

I can't imagine how unwieldy and cumbersome it must be to dust bookshelves or cramped car interiors with that telescopic wand permanently attached to the hose.

Again, it proves to me that it's best to have one vac only for carpets, and another for cleaning everything else. The engineering gymnastics that designers go through to add a power nozzle to a canister make such a "Power Team" vac very complicated and difficult to use for cleaning everything but carpets.

It's also often cheaper to have two easy-to-use vacs: one upright + one canister. You can get a top-rated Hoover Tempo for just 80 dollars for carpets, and a top-rated Electrolux Ultra Silencer Green for $250, and voila - you have a great vacuum cleaning team for under $350.

Just my humble opinion, friends.
