My Hoover 918

As you can see, it is complete and all-original but rather dusty and dirty. And the bag -- which is original, no? -- has a small hole near the bottom. And the bottom is quite rusty, which would indicate it was stored in a wet or humid area, or got flooded.

It does run perfectly, even the light bulb still works! Just needs some TLC and it will look like new again. The hardest part will be dealing with the rust on the bottom.

The last two photos show it stored in a closet at my church where it well may be kept, were it to belong there. Wouldn't it be fun to go snooping around in a church, look in a closet, and find a Hoover 918 and an old commercial Johnson Wax polisher?!

That's one dirty, rusty vacuum! I hope you can get the rust off...steel wool, maybe?

Do you think it is possible that the rust came from picking up some dampness on a wet carpet? We had that happen at our church. The foyer entrance was holding moisure during the winter months and when the vacuum was used it sucked up so of the moisture and then rusted when put in the storage closet.

Yes, that is possible. But the rust on the agitator roller is pretty heavy for the machine just to have been stored on a damp carpet.

All in all, not so bad for a 30+ year old commercial machine made of metal. The brush roll could be wire brushed and polished if the metal is not too thin, the same for the brush housing and the tongue of metal at the bag attachment.

I have never seen a 91, 913, or 918 NOT run! A testament to Hoover quality.
