My first vintage vacuum!

Hello, all! I put my very first post on the board, several days ago, asking for some advice about buying a vintage Hoover convertible. I'm happy to report that I'm a proud owner of a Hoover 1030! Check out my photos. What a great buy it turned out to be! I was able to remove most of the scuff marks from the hood with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. On top of that, the machine works great! I couldn't get over how quiet it sounds--more quiet than my Tempo, it purrs like a cat.

Could anyone tell me the date this vacuum was manufactured? From my research I believe it was somewhere between 1970-'73.

Just wondering as a new member here...if you are not sure of the date of manufacture of your vacuum, how do you really know it is a vintage model? The vast majority of my collection are newer and have the date of manufacture on a label, except for my oldest one which is a Kirby Heritage 84...and that one is obviously a vintage model.

That's a nice specimen of that model Matthew! You are right, it was manufactured from '71-'73 I believe, in the colors of Bali green with light/medium taupe trim/cord. It is a workhorse. I think that might've been one of the vacuums used on The Brady Bunch! They do purrr and are very effective. Make sure your brushroll spins freely without the belt, and that your brush strips are long enough, just protuding a little out of the bottom baseplate.

usually theres a way to date it by the serial number

I.E like this,

(this is a turbopower 1 ) On this dating system you need to know the decade (in this case 80's) the model number is U2332 So after the U2332 is 604 which is 1986 of April

Sweet! That's just like the one I grew up with except ours had a tan bag. I'm thinking we got it in '71 or '72 an it got cascaded down to me in the late '80s. I finally gave it to Goodwill when I moved in '98 and just needed to downsize. The outer bag had some tears in it and the handle was a bit wobbly at the base but it still worked great. I kind of wish I had kept it, but these days I've allowed myself to become overrun with Kirbys.
