Imagine my delight when I came home from work on Friday to find this by my front door.

My mail-order groom? Noooo...

It's my long pined-for Dial-A-Matic!

I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big huge thanks to Fred, Jeff, and Tom for making this happen! I mean, I don't even really know these guys and they went through all this trouble to basically make me a new DAM from the ground up!

Naturally, I had to try it out, so here I am vacuuming my room. It's not as loud as I thought it would be, but you can definitely hear it doing its work! I can't work up a sweat using this puppy, as the exhaust blasts me right in the face! One wonders how Laura Petrie kept her bouffant flip in place.

Oh, in the absence of toreador pants and ballerina flats, you'll just have to see me in jeans and sandals. I'll work on it.

A most delighted veg

Hey - way to go Veg! Enjoy this beautiful green machine - I know you have been waiting for quite sometime for a DAM.

Ben

Hi Veg, Congratulations on your new Dial a Matic. I love the greeen!! Happy vacuuming! Terry

Veg - I Saw That Machine In Person

At Jeff's. We should clarify that the Fred you were referring to was "Little Fred" - Fred Stachnik, a total Hoover geek and great guy! He got me my new Hoover Constellation. Great machine - enjoy! Now, I am waiting to see you in toreador pants and ballerina flats! Don't let me down.

You are dealing with some great vac folks - Jeff, Tom and L'il Fred. We love to lure people into this crazy hobby. Looks like they picked a great machine to do it! BTW everyone, has anyone noticed who is vacuuming with a Dial-A-Matic on the button for Vacuum-Of-The Day?

You're very welcome Veg!

I'm glad you like the cleaner and that it will have a good home. I remember you'd wanted a DAM for a while, and that one matches your Floor-a-Matic!
Enjoy it my friend!

DAM! that's nice

Congrats Veg! A fun cleaner.Oh,and yes, that is Samantha Stevens
with her 1100,the Hoover logo skillfully taped over of course.

ooh, Veg, you may have hit on something new and exciting! apply your deep conditioning hair treatment and your clay facial masque just before doing the vacuuming. let the dial-a-matics warm exhaust maximise your beauty regimine!

Yay!

I'm so glad it made it in-tact! I was worried that the box was not going to be rigid enough... so I made sure to pack it in there tightly with lots of crumpled up paper!

Glad you like it, Veg! I concour with Fred N... I, too am waiting to see you in toreador pants and ballerina flats! Don't let me down.

(Little) Fred

DAM

HI All,

I got a self propelled DAM (brown in colour) a few months ago which runs great but I don't think really cleans the carpet all that well. I put in a new belt, new brushroll strips but the brush just doesn't seem to come in close enough contact with the carpet. Since there is no manual adjustment for the head I was wondering if anyone had ideas how to lower the front of the machine....or is this just how they are built. The saying 'it beats, as it sweeps, as it cleans' doesn't apply to this DAM.

Thanks,
Gary

Veg's Dial-A-Matic

Hey that is a great looking machine. I unfortunately don't have any of mine any more... But just wanted to say I think all you guys are great you crack me up, toreador pants and Ballerina flats... sounds like a lot of you guys are just like me..... I think this club is the best thing I have ever found in my life.. can't wait to get to a convention some day to meet you all! KirbyKid

Heaven, I'm in heaven.......

Veg:

Congrats on becoming a full-fledged vac addict!! That green DAM looks terrific, and I know from my limited (Austin won't let me use them) experience and hearsay (Austin says they work great - hrmmmmmph) these are wonderful, timeless machines. Once again...love the colour - would go stunningly with a cucumber mask.

What's next...the mail order groom? ;-)

poor cleaning performance...

To Gary in Canada
Your DAM cleaning problem is an easy fix. Tip the machine forward and lay it on the floor, then locate the handle counterweight spring. It will be located on the right middle of the underside, and be stretched from just above the right front wheel to the rear edge of the housing, connected to a little hole under the bumper guard.
Unhook the spring from the housing, and reattach it to the rear wheel shaft, next to the right rear wheel.
This should correct your poor performance, and allow the nozzle to come in contact with the rug.
Hope this helps!
