My first Kirby! GSix 2000 Limited Edition!!!

Well I picked up my GSix in town as it was on Craigslist. It runs good, it's my first Kirby, and needs a good buffing. This picture was before cleaning it. I have since thrown the entire bag assembly into the washer, and the results were excellent! I have also somewhat hand polished the aluminum but I need a buffing wheel to finish it off good.

I like the handle with the accents real nice.

Was thrifting today and ran into a Nice Heritage without the nozzle....crazy he wanted $50.00 for it, no haggling I say no way, Sad because i wanted it in the worst way.
Big let down for the day...

P.S. Get out there and Thrift People lots of Vacuums out thar..in those junk shops...

I got it from a guy living in a trailer park. My mom was like "the next time you buy something off Craigslist check to see if it is in a dirty run down trailer park first!" -oh mom, freaking out about stuff as usual. I love it though, and it will be a while before I part with it.

I bought my G5 from a guy who was a heavy smoker. Took a while to clean it I washed the bag and soaked all the attachments in the laundry tub with bleach/dishsoap mix. It actually smells pretty good now (I have Odorific in the bag which helps too).
But I agree with your mom, if buying a more expensive newer use unit, check the condition first! I paid $150 but maybe wouldn't have if I knew I was going to put so much work into it.

For your first Kirby the G6 is a nice machine indeed! Now don't limit yourself to just a G series, at least get a Classic or Heritage style IMO they are the best Kirbys for their time and ultra durable! I am going to be selling my G5 simply because it is too much of a tank to use on my main floor which is mostly hard wood, and I have my other Kirbys to use on the basement carpet.

It is a very nice machine. The guy himself didn't smoke, but he had "friends" over all the time that did, of the shady/creepy looking kind. Ah well. It was only $75, he came down from $200. In the 12 year old Whirlpool Gold Series it took an 18 minute SuperWash plus adding more soap during rinse and then switching it to extra rinse. It came out smelling purely of tide, and not a hint of tobacco to speak of. I have polished it slightly with a rag and some Brasso, not the best but it removed most of the tarnish. My dad will probably help me buff it out =) . I may end up with a Tradition when I move out, but my mom said "this is it. I will not be carting you around to thrift stores and trailer parks anymore just to please you and make my skin crawl!!!"

I figured out the guy who sold it to me got it secondhand because the dealer sticker on the back says Petoskey, MI. Which is about 500 or more miles from here. The attachments as well as the rug plate must have been lost somewhere in the chain. All I got was the working machine.

polishing with brasso

Hi Mate

For hand polishing you cant beat a good auto sol marine shine , a good auoto shop should have it.

Looks great though , you will enjoy it. Your Mom will get over it and take you to get more , she is your mom after all

It come in a toothpast like tube and is fantastic. If you use it on a buffing wheel you will get a mirror finish just watch out it doesn't spray in your face when the wheel hits it

By the way brasso workes wonders on polishing plastic especially dyson dust containers makes them like new and removes all the scratches when you use a buffing wheel

Hi Darren

If you fit the buffing wheel to a drill youcan get it inside the bin of the dyson, be easy as you car burn the plastic if you stay in one place to long , the dyson bin is a higher grad poly carbonite than its body can be shone up nicly with ease , if you p[olish the body with a buffing wheel take ease the abs plastic has a much lower melting point than the bins poly carbonite.

we buff up every dyson we get in for repair to look like new , you can even sand the scratches on the body down with a high grit water paper and then buff it up. we do this all the time, infact I am doing a dc18 at the moment inbetween coffe breaks , allot of coffee breaks

Well just hand buffing it with Brasso is doing the job slowly but good. Hopefully in a few more weeks I'll have achieved my stringent expectations with a little polishing work each day .

I initially started using brasso on my Kirbys, and while it did make it shine, it didn't get out stains and corrosion, so on my Tradition for example, it had a water stain on the front of the fan case, Brasso just made it into a shiny water stain, but products like Autosol and Peek got a much better result as they're essentially fine grinding pastes which remove tarnishing and whatnot...

Over there in the US you'd probably be best getting "Mother's" aluminium polish, that also produces quality results too...

Yesss! I know what your talking about! It seems to not really work that well. But, it does do the job slowly. I think I might try mothers and if I can find the other stuff I will try that also.

Nice job on the polishing, Seems like just about any kirby can spring back into a nice condition if given the time and effort. The G6 has a special place in my collection as it was the first G series i acquired, love it's performance and it's smooth tech drive. It's an excellent choice for your first Kirby IMO.

It was my only choice, I can't buy on eBay and I've only seen a handful in the last four years I've wanted one on Craigslist. It is very smooth, and powerful as you said.
