I have wanted one since I first saw this style of Hoover. My hopes of finding one here in South Africa were non existant then Joanne saw this on Gumtree is Durban ( about 1600 km +- 1000 miles ) away. I got hold of the second hand store selling it and bought it and arranged to courier it down to Cape Town.

I took some time to get to it as the day It arrived I did a nice Job of wiping out the front of my car.
I eventually got to stripping it down for its full rebuild

Rather jammed up with dust. Bearings were in great condition. After I cleaner them I took them down to show my bearing company that supplies me with all my bearings. Old man behind the counter was dead silent for a few minutes , Just rolling them about in his fingers. aahh when they made things properly.

The snap rings that held the bearing covers in place nearly shot all the way across the room when I removed them

Transformation!

.
You do some of the most extreme saves of any of the restos posted here, bravo!
No doubt because of the fairly rare nature of most of these machines in your country.
Thanks for posting, it's satisfying and instructional for me, and no doubt many others, to witness the renewal process, if even secondarily.

The bottom all cleaned up I had to settle for painting the brush holder as aposed to having it chromed as it is not possible to remove it without damaging it.
