Convertibles came in many many colors over the years and various designs for the bag. I had one that was about the same era but it was white with a beep blue hood and a white headlight cover. The bag was white and blue with deep wide blue horizontal stripes at the bottom and they got smaller in width and lighter in blue shades as the stripes went higher up the bag. It belonged to the next door neighbors growing up, they decided it was time for new vacs so they put it on the trash but was working fine. They replaced it with a Hoover innovation upright. Anyway, I used it for my dorm room in college for a few years then when I got my first apartment after moving half way across the country for a job it was my vacuum for about a year when the roller brush bearings started seizing as it would run and get very hot on the ends as well as loud. Discovering it was the bearings I went to several vac stores to get new bearings but they all wanted a lot of money for them that to me wasn’t worth it. At the third vacuum store I visited the guy told me I won’t find them any cheaper anywhere because the price is controlled. He had a used Electrolux Silverado canister in the store and eyeing that I knew I really just wanted an Electrolux as that’s what we had growing up. Assuming it would be too expensive for my budget I didn’t ask him about the price but finally did. He wanted $150 for it and I asked about possibly any money for the Hoover and he gave me $25 for the Hoover so it got traded that day. I was always cleaning the inside of my car and the Hoover’s attachments were a pain to use and suction was poor so I knew I would be happier with the Electrolux canister. Was so pleased to have the Electrolux from then on and that 10 year old previously used model I bought in 1994 lasted until just this past August when the motor went out in it.
I enjoyed the Hoover when I had it but I was never pleased at how it would leak dust onto the hood from where the bag attached to the cleaner base. The gasket was there and the retainer too but it just never was a good seal and that always frustrated me. Also the vac would get heavier as the bag would fill with dirt. I also have had lower back issues since I was a teenager and so pushing the Hoover was ok in my one bedroom apartment that had wall to wall carpet in the living/dining area and bedroom but if I had to use it much more than that at a time my back would have been hurting and even near the end of my time with it my back would hurt shortly before I finished cleaning with it.
The neighbors didn’t have the attachments, those I picked up off someone’s trash or at a goodwill...can’t remember now...there was only one short wand and that made hard floor vacuuming annoying or cleaning up high difficult too. The neighbors had a Hoover porta power canister for the things the upright didn’t do. I did get that from them too but gave it away to a college friend when I graduated as I had enjoyed it but decided I didn’t want it. A clip to hold the hose on had broken off on the neighbors but Dad got a new end for the hose to fix it so we got it working again. It was nice, had a clip on wheel set and a cloth shake out dust bag. The neighbors replaced it with an updated version which used paper bags and had a nicer floor tool.
