Gareth, it's a BLAST. The convention is held at the Vacuum Museum, so no need to drag one's collection clear across the country. There is no 'fee' to go to the convention, and the motel expenses are low ($56 a night at the Greenstay Inn). We don't have banquets, and try to eat at good but inexpensive restaurants. I always have one barbeque (this year it's at the pavilion at the Tacony factory), which is at no cost to my friends. There are no cliques, no hook ups, and no one feels left out of the fun. No alcohol during the convention hours, so no hurt feelings (and no apologies the next day). What someone drinks after hours is their own choice.

There's a tremendous amount of sharing. I 'hoard' bags, belts, vac, and repair parts all year long, just to share them with my fellow collectors. Right now, I have a box with over 200 packs of obsolete bags to share, some of them more than forty years old. I save hoses, and brush rollers from machines that are duplicates before getting rid of the machine.

And we have door prizes, like the Maytag M1200 that will be raffled off this year. There is no 'set in stone' agenda, just fellow vacuum collectors, learning about vacuums, and enjoying each others company and fellowship. It is NOT fancy, and certainly NOT 'high society drama queens' trying to out do each other.

Tom your gathering

Is my cup of tea ...

I've heard about that other stuff and there is NO way I would or could ever be a part of that .

I have a reputation to uphold and I prefer friendly down to earth people who know how to have honest fun .

I will defiantly be visiting you at the museum and Tacony factory very soon just have a busy summer
as always .

Dan

Thanks Dan. Donnie and I went to Chicago this past weekend for my birthday. My first time at boys town. Got to visit Owen Perkins and see his amazing collection of the first central Vacs. Cher and I have the same birthday. "Do you believe I'm 103".

Kirby Avalir # 4

Picked this up at a pawn shop for a song and a dance I could say I was on Broadway but then again I don't lie plus it's so easy to check on because they keep detailed records of everyone who has been on Broadway .

It was a demo even came with the demo tool it was super cheap I couldn't pass it up one can never have too many Kirby's especially Kirbyloverdan aka Hooverloverdan .

Goodness Gracious!!An Avalir found at a pawn shop ALREADY-either the person didn't like the machine or lost his job,was he trying to get even with his wife pawning her new vacuum? And another thing interesting about that SUPER find---the machine has a dirt meter!!!With 4 Avalirs--maybe you should become a Kirby dealer!

I am working on my 2nd Avalir-that would be enough for me.Seems like the Avalirs find YOU!Yes,would be hard to pass up a bargain-and give the homeless Avalir a new home! After all it will have other Avalirs to play with! But for me you never know what shows up at the only vac place in town I frequent.

Kool Rex

Rex

When ever I buy a home I gut them and redo everything to make sure nothing goes wrong from roof to mechanicals to basement .

I have been lucky by having everything brand new if anything goes wrong I have warranties on
everything .

Will do same thing when I buy my Key West house or condo plus I need a place to put some of my cars too 😁
