My Electrolux Renaissance went crazy!

Help! My Renaissance went nuts! It won't shut off unless I unplug it. The brushroll control on the hose does respond though (brushroll turns off/on), but I lose all of the power features (won't do low or medium, only high). Are there any Electrolux folks here that can tell me what's wrong before I take it in to Aerus? Or anyone who can provide me with the parts? Thanks, KC

I had one about a year ago that did the exact same thing.   Turned out the hose went bad and I bought a new one and it was just fine fron then on!   I was told that was common in the Renaissance by the Aerus dealer in northern Indianapolis. He tried to sell me a hose but I bought off of ebay. Much cheaper.

I'm pretty certain that you need a new hose. They aren't cheap but it should fix the problem your are having with you Renaissance. I have an original first edition dark gray Renaissance now and previously had the later lite gray colored model and I have been very lucky to not have any trouble with the digital hose controls. Aerus/Electrolux vacuums have always been able to put up with a certain amount of abuse and keep on going, as can the Renaissance machines, however their hose handle can not handle much abuse. You must take care of the digital handle, make sure you don't drop it frequently or bang it against walls or furniture. The computer board inside the hose is some what fragile and can be damaged easily. If you do replace the hose make sure it is not subjected to abuse or you will find yourself replacing it again. This was one of the reasons why Electrolux changed the hose handle to the later slide switch controls that the Epic 8000 and beyond had instead of continuing with the digital touch pad style like the Renaissance.

I've heard the hoses go for as much as 300 dollars! I paid 25 dollars for my Renny on C/L so I'd hardly spend that much to replace the hose... I accidentally sucked up water with mine (vacuuming a dark bathroom and didn't know the was water on the floor until I heard gurgling in the hose and found the bag almost saturated), but I let it dry for a month or so and it's been fine ever since. Sometimes, it won't turn on when I try to use the blower, but it usually works perfectly... hope you get it fixed and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

Same thing

happened with my Renny. I LOVED that vacuum and even though I was very careful with it, the hose did the exact same thing you described, so I got another one and after two weeks, it did the same thing.

very common issue

I never had any problems with my RENNY but I know a few people that had nothing but issues. A few of them ended up trading it in for the guardian or a Miele. I have a few used hoses hanging in the shop and a box full of used handle control boards of your interested.

I don't have it anymore. I traded it for an epic 6500, which I like a lot, but I'd rather have had the epic 8000 since it's pretty much like the renny, MINUS the electronic hose handle. I could also tell the renny had more power than the epic 6500.

Additional Parts?

Seth, I'll e-mail you about parts... I also lost my dusting brush and sidekick II when I moved last and really miss them, if you happen to have those pieces.. I'll call Aerus tomorrow to get a quote on the hose as I kind of feel like it might be worth it to have a 'new' one so it doesn't happen again.. but we'll see how much. Thanks for your help guys!
