My Electrolux Olympia One!

A while back, a good friend, Kim in Michigan sent me a vacuum that had been in his family for a long time. He said it was an Electrolux with a power nozzle. When it arrived I was very happy to find out it was an Olympia One. I did not have this model in my collection. I spent some time detailing the machine and it turned out beautiful. There were some places on the power nozzle where the paint was scraped off but other than that the machine is almost perfect. Thanks Kim for such a great gift. Hope you all enjoy the pictures.

Ever since I got my Silverado, something has just clicked with me regarding these Electrolux canisters. That is a beautiful machine indeed!

I have an Olympia One, that I bought a flea market for $10.00 complete with the power nozzle. The hose was shot, and the motor on the power nozzle for froze up. But I repair shop that has been in business for over 75 years and had the vacuum and power nozzle cleaned and adjusted for $27.50. So far it's the best vacuum I've owned besides the Kirby. I would like to get another Olympia One for a friend of mine. She jokes with me every time she's here that she is going to sneak it out to the car without me know.

I've got several Olympias in my collection. My most recent is one I bought at a local thrift store, "Got Junk" is the name of it. The vacuum had duct tape all up the hose, so it's obvious the hose is shot. When I first fired up the vacuum, it sounded like the armature was shot, as you could hear it arcing. I decided to check it over. I don't think I've EVER seen a motor so caked with dirt! So, after a complete dis-assembly of the motor and a cleaning with hot soapy water, and some new motor brushes, that machine runs like a new one! It's amazing what a good cleaning will do! I only paid $5.00 for the machine with the hose, 2 wands, floor brush and Power Nozzle.

Congratulations on the Olympia One! The official vacuum of the 1980 Winter Olympics! You will get a lot of service from that machine there, kiddo. I have abused my Olympia for well over twelve years since finding it in the garbage alongside the road. I even had it hooked up to my dust collector system for my power tools. It never missed a beat!

Thanks everyone!! Pete, I believe the production years were 1978-1982. One thing amazing about this machine is the fact that the hose seems perfect, no leakage at all which for Electrolux is very unusual.

Terry, the same color scheme as the 1980 thru 1982 Canadian Lux Late Model AP280. Thanks Pete. To the left of the late 1205 with the direct connect electric hose and old style handle...

The other two are AP100s.

Very nice Dave, is that brown nozzle a floor tool or rug tool?

Its the standard Canadian floor brush which came out for the 80 series first in red then green. CanLux simply changed the plastic body color to match. Same as they did for the crevice tool and dusting brush and rug tool with the flip-over gleaner bar. I don't have that in brown nor the upholstery nozzle. Yet.

I don't know if they made a rug floor nozzle in brown to go with the AP280. I bought mine new back in '81 and it did not come with a rug nozzle - only the floor brush and power nozzle as you have pictured as well as the 3 above the floor tools.

You may very well be right, Gary. I suppose it would be redundant with the standard PN. I seem to have a sense memory it came in brown what with all the other brown accessories.

Ah now...Doug's site does picture a complete TOL AP280 in brown with the rug nozzle, a white bristle wall brush and a shag rake...so it's out there somewhere.

In Doug's pic that you posted, where is the brown rug tool? I see the brown power nozzle, shag tool, floor brush and floor brush with white bristles but I don't see a brown rug tool.

It's between the floor and wall brushes to the right partially hidden behind the hose. There's a clearer view of it in the second brown AP 280 Special picture on Doug's site in the Canadian Lux folder beside the one I've posted.

Ahh that brown rug tool.. I was thinking the floor tool.. I don't have that one either.. now I have to , absolutely have to have one!!! My life won't be complete till I have one.

OK now I see it! It must have been an optional accessory. Note that the swivel connector is a different colour whereas on the floor brush the connector is brown.
