At the risk of incurring the wrath of some of our esteemed members, I would like to share with all of you the arrival of what I have long considered to be my dream machine.

Since becoming acquainted with the fine machines of Electrolux UK, I have often dreamed of owning one cylinder (canister) model in particular -- the Excellio. It was the top of the range in the '90s, if I'm not mistaken, and a real bugger to find on eBay!

Well, long story short a few weeks ago I found one on eBay with a Buy-It-Now offer and I snagged it. It worked its way across the Atlantic over the past week, and just arrived today in absolutely perfect condition! I've attached a picture from the eBay listing itself -- and I'll put some of my own up later on.

The machine is the model Z5045, which features infrared remote control and a boost facility. The flex (cord) winder is one of the more unique designs that I've ever seen as well: there's a brake lever on top of the machine instead of a pedal which when set in one position allows the mains cable to freely reel in and out as the cleaner moves about. The other position allows you to reel out as much cable as you need and then lock the winder in that position.

Is there anyone out there who might know more about the remote control system on this machine, by any chance? I'm curious to know if it's a digital or analogue system. Reason? Well, without the remote control on the hose end the machine simply won't turn on and off. So, I'm trying different types of learning remote controls to replicate the control functions in case something goes wrong with the on-hose remote. One particular remote that I have will only work with digital infrared signals, so if I could know more about the Excellio's remote system I could then know whether or not this remote would be useable.

Hi great find , I have one identical tucked away some where . The remote is infared and is digital, the machine I have will work without the remote as well. it operates off penlight battery's in the handle , the UK and SA Electrolux oxygen had the same system.

Due to the fact that there are no wires they seldom break.

Great find

Cheers Gareth

Very nice!

Hi. Very nice. I like the Excellio range. I have one similar but with out the remote control in the handle.
I've seen a few turn up on ebay over the years but most are in poor condition.
Or the original owners lose the attachments.

Let us know when it arrives. You will have to take more pics:o)

Update on the remote control ...

Well, I worked with the remote control some today and so far have been successful in replicating the On/Off and Boost functions of the on-hose remote into my learning remote. Now, all I have to do is get the Power Up and Power Down functions to replicate and then I'll be in business!

Incidentally, if anyone's interested the remote control that I'm using is a model R50 by Universal Electronics Inc. I've successfully used this remote for everything from air conditioners to cable boxes (and everything in between), so it just seemed natural to try and program a vacuum cleaner into it!

Congrats.... it's always great to find a dream machine. It looks great, and I love that cord winder feature! Did it come with a power nozzle? I'd love to see that!

Your questions answered!

Allen - the Excellio was made in Sweden, and came to my collection via eBay UK from a seller located in Battersea, London. It runs on 240VAC, which is supplied to it by my voltage converter.

Bobby - couldn't agree with you more! I love finding a dream machine. And the cord winder is really one of the most unique ones that I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the only "power nozzle" that it came with was a air-driven one that's in need of a serious cleaning. There is an electric nozzle available for it still -- but at a little over $200 US it's just not in the budget right now! (I didn't even pay that much for the cleaner itself! But maybe after the New Year ...)
