Well, it was never my plan to have this machine in my life (Electrolux Excellio Super Silence Z5045), but I saw it on sale today at a local private electrical hard ware shop reduced from £129-99 to just £60! It had one owner who used it for a very short time and then returned it to the shop. Complete with its original box, 2 spare dust bags, telescopic metal suction tube, all original tools, new filters and a user manual. Comes with the Sebo inspired original suction floor head with the ribbed roller pedal. I really like it, but as others have commented with the archived post ( http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?14883 ) it is quite a bulky machine. The vacuum came already installed with 2 AAA batteries at the top of the remote control handle - and behold, they were "Ever Ready Silver Seal" red batteries, which is like a blast from the past!
I'm quite impressed with it TBH although there are quite a few likenesses to Miele vacuums - the upholstery tool for starters is a dead cert copy of Miele's one but with a smaller 32mm sizing and I think Miele certainly copied Electrolux on the neat auto cord rewind which in the manual, is called "Comfort" rewind, where it gives you the option to manually lock the cable in use and then just switch "off" resulting in all the 10 metres of cable rewinding back into the machine automatically.
The user manual has some unusual tips including the issue of what the machine will do if the RC handle batteries are dead - this is why there's a manual switch on pedal as the machine will go into the MAX power instead. Also, the user manual has a wonderful warning about picking up DIY dust etc, citing and suggesting that a "fist size of cotton wool should be placed into the bag if the paper dust bag is being used to pick up DIY dust."
However what I do love about it is that it reminds me of my much loved Electrolux Mondo 1150E. Same kind of bulky size but oh so robust and quiet. What I don't like is the park position on top of the machine which switches itself off "a la Miele" when the floor head catch is slid in. It has a lovely set of LEDs, filter change light and a handy little door that when picked open reveals a power brush outlet - as noted in previous threads, the only optional tool for the UK market seems to be an air driven head.
The S Class filter it just a HEPA paper cartridge and snaps in at the back - unlike the later Powerplus canisters etc, the air thrust is forced outwards at the rear top, so it can be placed on stairs without the fear of burning. Generally a very well designed vacuum and sadly not many design details are carried on to existing Electrolux UK products these days - including Miele inspired push button locks on the pipes, floorhead and top of pipes/handle.
