My Dream Job!!!

Hi everyone, I know it's been awhile for me on here! My husband restores cars for a living, most are $150,000 and up type restorations. I started working there now since this spring! I've always wanted to work on cars, but never was taught! When I met my husband, he taught me everything to the point that I'm trusted on working on these expensive rare cars!!! I love my job!!! I will include a crap load of pics of the different cars that we have at the shop and that I've personally worked on! The very first car I worked on was an extremely rare 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge! BTW, I name all of the cars at work! The boss even calls them by their names! Ha ha! That Judge I named Sadie! Long story short, the owner of Sadie owns the Pontiac Museum in Pontiac, Illinois, so when she was done being restored, he had an unveiling in the town of Pontiac. We went and have tons of pics of her! Other cars I have worked on that I will share are: 1964 Corvette Stingray, 1967 Chevy Camaro, 1931 Chevy Independence, 1967 Pontiac GTO, 1951 Ford Victoria, and a 1965 Pontiac GTO. I am the one that once my husband is done doing the body work and blocking, it gets sent over to me. I DA the whole cars basically getting them ready for paint. They go get painted and get kicked back to me to color sand and make the body and paint look flat, no waves or orange peel!!! Then they get buffed by either my husband or another guy. The 1931 Chevy I have a lot of pics of her to show! I had to drill and put in all the metal window trim pieces! I painted some of her window trim pieces and the spare tire bracket! More Pics!!!

Here's some pics of the 1951 Ford Victoria, 1967 Pontiac GTO, and the 1965 Pontiac GTO! The GTO I had to strip all of the paint off of the deck lid and the roof! I will include a pic of all of the lovely DA's air tools I had to use! Half of those are mine and the other half of the tools are my husbands! I got a couple pics of the 1967 GTO header panel that I blocked the primer and painted the inside black! Also, got a few pics of the 1951 Ford front bumper that I disassembled and hand polished! -Michelle

I can definitely see that "Sweepy" is in capable hands.

Interesting color on that GTO Judge. Surprisingly understated. Was that the original color? I've seen regular GTO's (if you can call any GTO "regular") in a variety of colors but I've only seen the Judges in their signature orange livery.

Can't wait to see "Sweepy" when you are finished with her!!!Your work is top notch!!!Right now we have a man who used to do car body paint work painting some of our transmitters and the control room console.He was using electric and air powered tools much like yours.No matter how well you cordon off the ara where the painting and grinding is done-it still gets out.Some of the parts could be done outside.At first the fellow tried top paint the console by hand-since its in a sensitive area of the building and con't be moved.The hand painting didn't turn out.He had to use the sprayer to do a better job.We put up with the sparying-and the console turned out fine.Used a blue paint that he mentioned was normally used on Jaguar cars.A Racing blue color.The other panels of the console will be Porcelean White.Same colors as the older Continental Electronics transmitters.For 65 Yr old rigs-they do look much better.Glad you enjoy your job.Painting is not my thing-but the end results are beautiful!!!The cars you worked on--so nice you hate to use them for fear of messing up the nice paintjobs!

--64 Grand Prix!!!
Is it line line for restoration?Tell us more.We have a huge variety of cars at our weekly(April-October)cruise in but only one 63 GP and one Judge (orange) over recent years.We have seen some near 100 point 49-50 Fords.Maybe one of yours will cruise our 4 block main street one day.
(History trivia-I have read that the first 53 Corvette sent to KY was damaged in a minor wreck before the body shop was trained on fiberglass repair!)

That's the original color on the GTO Judge!!! That's why it's so rare! There's only 6 1970 Judges ever painted that color! Yes, most 1970 Judges you see are orbit orange!

I don't know too much about the 64 Grand Prix at work! I think it either is getting engine work or needs a new engine put in. I will find out more on it! The only thing I know is that the split window only came on a 63 corvette. A lot of people that see the 64 corvette ask me if it has the split window or not and I have to inform them that it never came with one! I do really like the reverse lights on the GP! I like that they take up most of the back end, not the taillights! What's funny is, another guy at work and me took a tape measure and measured the GP and it came out to 17 feet something, Sweepy is 18 feet long! I couldn't believe seeing and getting perspective on the GP as being smaller!!! Ha Ha!

I may be wrong, again, getting older here, but I think the Judge color's real color was called Carousel Red. I THINK, or best guess

You are right! The GTO had a carousel red and orbit orange. The first pic is of a 1969 GTO Judge in carousel red and the second pic is of a 1970 GTO Judge in orbit orange. These pics I found online. -Michelle
