I have an ad on CL wanting a vintage vacuum. So I get a reply for a mint Hoover from the 30s.

Now I just sold my 800 (by mistake- but went to a friend)

And So the guy said the only defect was the handle rubber was falling off. (the 800s had went petrified and cracked already) This one was still there and useable.

So I ask the bag color and bumper color.
Bag is replacement- Tan- I dont care for its what its attached to that matters.
Bumper is black.

So is it an
700
725

800????

NO?
Then what is it??????

Well its my dream hoover.

THE 150!!!! yay!!!

I will have pictures tomorrow.

So.........

Is this yet another pipe-dream in another long line of "I'm getting..." vacuum threads?

not what I am hearing

from my parents. I think this is legitimate, tristar!

I hope so. I get a RAINBOW AND MY FAV HOOVER FOR REAL!!!!

Whoes got images?

Tristar would you be kind to give me the down low- on what a Hoover 150 looks like all around and under? That would be sweet.

And since this is rare- who wants to show theirs off here?

Not that rare. Don't believe everything you think or guess. Google it and show some attempt to do your own research. To the Archives, Lad, to the Archives...

Again with the Rainbow? Just yesterday we were told how the Rainbow slipped through your fingers...counting chickens before the eggs are laid again? Sorry to be dismissive but this is getting tiresome.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one rolling my eyes this time. Like you said Dave, it's getting a bit exhausting keeping up with all the "I'm Getting...." threads!

Hi Brandon - I don't know if you've seen my website before, but there's lots of information on there about almost all of the pre-war Hoovers, including the 150/160.

Scroll to the bottom of the page I've linked for the relevant bits - a lot of what I've written about the 160 is relevant to the 150 as well. If you have any futher questions that aren't answered there, feel free to drop me an email.

well the rainbow is a done deal

I know for a fact that the rainbow is a deal. Not only do I know the guy, I know his vacuums. He is coming back to omaha this week, and Saturday I am going to his house (of which I have the address) And picking out my rainbow from his collection. Maybe I will get two if he is nice and gives one of his chrome domes away. But I think I will just stick with the D4C se and aquamate.

Me Four. If I posted about all the vacuums I thought I was getting, or almost got (on Ebay, etc), my posts would run to the hundreds. Why not just wait, see how the transaction turns out, and when its yours, everyone will be glad to celebrate your find with you. And seriously, I really do hope it works out for you.

Friendly Advice

Brandon,

Everyone here would agree that we know how exciting it can be to find a new vacuum you want, and have the same hopes that you end up getting it. It's best to just post about it once you have it in hand. This way, you don't have to explain to everyone how you didn't end up getting the vacuum you thought you were going to. I always post once I have a new find (and yes I know I'm camera happy and tend to upload about 20 pictures per machine), but really this is the best "practice" if you will. We all could entirely flood this place with posts of machines we want and might get, but until you actually have them, it might be best to just keep it in thought until you have the machine.

Just giving you some friendly advice, is all.

Andrew

Ah, but Brandon...

...can't fault you for the excitement though...and your enthusiasm for these things at your age. It's great to see someone who gives a dang, is interested in these vacuums, their history, their manufacture. Not only do I admire you for it, but I thank you for it as well.

Yet the advice above is good advice. I only post pics when I have it in hand, or from a seller that I've done business with and know will come through. Not only does it save embarrassment but as you collect vacuums, you collect a story, and having it in hand keeps the negative away from that story.

I learned that by experience. When I got one of my vacs I was so happy. But it needed a power nozzle. Hey, no problem, a potential supplier popped up, and was even endorsed by someone else respectable.

So I felt confident enough to say "Hey, I'm getting...." Well...as the weeks passed, the feeling came on me that this guy was a flake. The only thing delivered was excuses..."it will be here Monday." Then a "It will be here Friday." "Then another it will be here Friday."

Well...between the two Fridays it was supposed to get here, I sourced what I needed from elsewhere. To the previous guys credit, he did refund when I sent him an email with a deadline, otherwise I would open a PayPal dispute. (The PayPal account was belonged to a friend of his.) In his reply, he said the thing was never ordered and he had no control over that.

Just a minute here. You tell me 3 times it's going to arrive, then you tell me it's never been ordered? Uh...something is really, really wrong here. I made a note to myself to stay clear of this guy and his endorsing "friend."

But to this day, I can't look at that vacuum without thinking of that.

You don't want something like that happening with a vac you're getting, or hoping to get.

But keep on keeping on, and post pics and the experience of the vacs you do get! They're fun, exciting, and I know you have an interest in restoration, and will be having fun with that too. I look forward to seeing your future acquisitions and restorations.

me 6

Just look @ my FQ 31 since I got it yesterday but will put more pics soon. Not like someone who claims 2 get vacs but never really did on this forum; at least I REALLY got a vac yesterday. All it needs is the 'floor duster' pad 4 the rug tool.

I believe

...we've seen your Filter Queen on another thread. So this is a repeat.

I'm sure you'll come across the floor pad sooner or later.

The reference to "someone else" was not necessary. If someone doesn't like someone else's postings -- just don't read those threads. That might be the appropriate thing to do. A running commentary over several days by several people is not. I think everything that's needed to have been said on this thread has been said.

Time to let it go now.

John

well

the hoover guy is the slowest person to respond to emails.

I do not think he has email access during the week days.

*nodding*

Brandon, I've had that experience. It took 3 weeks to get my Kirby 560. The guy listed it, I emailed him. Didn't hear from him, so figured it sold. A week later he calls. Leaves a message. I call him. Leave a message. A week later I email him, finally we make voice contact.

Yeesh...do yah want my money or not?
