PN-1 Help!

I bought a brand new belt and brushroll for the Electrolux PN-1 and now it's acting strange. The motor sounds like it's laboring and it occasionally makes these terrible grinding sounds. The brushroll is identical to the old one, and the belt seems to fit fine. I'm pretty sure I put it back together correctly. The new brushroll is identical to the old one, only not worn out. If you need a video, I'll be happy to put one up.

Okay, thank you very much for your help. I knew something had to be up, because those thread guards just didn't look right rubbing up against the other metal part.

Correct. I have 3 pn1's, and one has the pn2 brush in it. you will have to change she gear drive and bearing over on the new brush, it will slide off. Its worth it, trust me! ill go to the shop later and take pictures of the pn1 i have pulled apart down there to change the belt on

One thing I've always wondered about Electroluxes is what is the purpose of the cleaning selector? I know it has something to do with how long it takes before the vacuum thinks the bag is full. Also, how will these new Perfect HEPA bags work with it?

Elusive EH-4?

I got this brand new genuine Electrolux EH-4 when I got the 1205 along with the original hose. But I can't find another one anywhere! All I can find are the generic aftermarket ones. If I wanted to get another one of these, where do I look?

Perstistent PN-1 problems

I took off the thread cutters on the new PN-2 brushroll that I put in, but the belt smell and noises are still there. I took a video of it so we can more easily find the problem. The only thing I can think of to do now is take my pocketknife and cut off the bristles that hit the rug guard.

with the belt off, you should be able to spin the brushroll by hand to see what is going on.

Maybe a piece of metal needs to be tweaked.

Hi, Clayton. If you would prefer a hose with a switch id consider swapping my generic hose with a switch for that genuine hose. Also that brushroll just wont work. you need a pn1 brushroll so you dont wear out the motor

Hi, Vacuumlad,

Okay, thanks for the information on the brushroll. I don't have a PN-2, but will this brushroll work in one without the thread cutters, or are those necessary too?

Sorry, not getting rid of my genuine Lux hose.

Get the right brush roll

My PN-1 had a PN-2 brush roll in it before I replaced it with a proper PN-1 brush roll last spring. If I recall correctly, the PN-2 brush roll was ever so slightly longer and thus fit more snugly in the PN-1 and has no side-to-side play. The PN-1 brush roll has a bit of side-to-side play in it but performs a helluva lot better.

Go ahead and get the right brush roll. You and your power nozzle will be happier in the long run. Besides, they aren't terribly expensive--and a whole lot less expensive than replacing the motor. Here's one on eBay for $16.99 with free shipping:

Thanks for the info

I'm still learning my Electroluxes. I want to get more of them. In the past, I have passed up several really good deals on Electroluxes, and I regret not getting them. But now, I buy every Electrolux I see. I currently have a XXX, an E, a Turquoise G, a Tan G, two 1205's, a Super J, and a Diamond Jubilee. This 1205 and the XXX is the only complete ones, but I'll look and I might be able to cobble a set of attachments for the J and Diamond Jubilee. I still need to get a new cord and hose for the XXX, though.
