My Cirrus CR-79 Handle is breaking

So this Novemeber I will have had this vacuum 5 years. When I bought it I would told to never pick it up by the handle...so I've been super careful to never do that...but even still, using it today, I noticed the handle kept getting looser and I could see it trying to come apart from side to side as I was pushing pulling it along vacuuming... There are a few phillips screws which I can't tighten..it's like they're all stripped...am I going to have to get a new handle or is there something else I can do?

My guess would be the screw posts stripped out or cracked apart inside the handle and it no longer holds the screws tightly. Would have to disassemble the handle to verify condition.

You can get new handle valves that are like as low as $5. You don't have to get a whole new handle assembly.

Ok... can you link me? Also, the on/off switch is ON the handle...would something have to be wired?

Is the grip you'd need. There are no wires, the switch assembly is a bit interesting. The way it's set up there's a rod that runs from the switch you slide down through the handle and presses on the microswitch in the upper body of the machine to turn it on. All you'll need to do is unscrew the old assembly, swap the cord hook over and align the switch and its frame into the new handle grip assembly.

Could make a suggestion here to a more permanent fix? Sure, you COULD order a new handle assembly. BUT, if the plastic screw posts stripped out, it will likely happen again in 5 years. After all, it is Chinese cheap quality plastic.

What I would do instead is drill out a small hole on the side of the handle where the screw post is. Then go to a hardware store, and get nuts and bolts, and use that to hold the handle halves together. Then you're relying on a metal nut not wearing out, NOT a plastic screw hole. And that repair would likely last the rest of the life of the vacuum. I'm all for repairing stuff the proper, "official" way....but not when you KNOW it's a problem issue that will just keep on breaking again and again. Then it's time to get creative and come up with a solution that will fix the problem permanently and last.

Thanks... I'll figure out what to do...the vacuum itself is GREAT... they advertise that there are metal parts where they matter (in areas that get used a lot) I guess they didn't think that the force of gripping the handle and pushing it back/forth, turning it...isn't a critical part? LOL.. I can only imagine how this would have failed had I picked it up by the handle when moving it (which I never did)

I ended up ordering the handle only...$15 w free ship... I took the handle apart. Waiting for part to get here. Only $15.

I'm assuming that part comes with all the screws, etc I need?

got the part today... and it's the handle only... nothing else.. No screws.. .I saved the old screws, which is fine..I can use those... the problem is there are a couple of cracked plastic pieces that the screw goes into...I have no way to connect this without rigging something

Got the handle on...I didn't realize this was designed slightly differently...My old one had holes on both sides of the handle... this one didn't. There 2 plastic pieces that fit through the hole and went to the other side on the old one...with this one, the screws just screw in once you've got the handle together and that's it. It fits really snug and tight...

But............Get this..............

This handle didn't come with a cord wrap...I thought, no big deal.. I'll unscrew my other one and put it on this one.. only it absolutely will not fit. so now I have no cord wrap...
