From my older sister. . . very dirty as you may or may not know, so it will be awhile before I can use it. The serial number dates this to December 1990.

That mended cord has got to go or at least replace the plug with one designed to handle the load. You've got a little bit of a project on your hands but I'm sure it'll turn out nice.
