And from the top

Plastivacs are no means a new thing. This cleaner, from the early 1980s, appears to be all plastic. It is quite heavy. Here you can see the on/off button and flex (cord) winder on teh back and teh bag full peeping round from the front

Opened up

This is what I know as a dirty fan cleaner, the hose simply inserts in here, behind the brushroll, with a piece down the front to cut the suction off from the brushroll. Unfortunatly I dont have tools for this cleaner [this post was last edited: 8/18/2011-08:16]

Brushroll

I always feel that you dont get a really good sweeping performance unless there are agitators as well as brush strips. As a cleaner this is not bad, a bit noisy perhaps, and its fairly easy to use. When I first got it I thought the performance was not very good as the suction seemed very low. As a mini-meet a few weeks ago the "spa elves" agreed and took it apart. They found that a childs sock had got right through the fan chamber intact but had then got stuck in the hose going to the bag. There are about 15 screws holding the plate on the bottom of the cleaner

Although it was quite common in catalogues of the time, you dont see many of these around although there was a soft bag (and slightly later) version on ebay a few weeks ago.

Here are my...

Hi, Here are my Moulinex vacuum cleaners. The hard and soft bagged versions both from the early 80s. I've found them to be good cleaners and run quite and smooth.
I do have the hose and floor head for the major. The suction on the major is quite good. I do need to get a new light bulb for the Major tho... There a strange bulb, 45 volt...

I pictured them with the hard and soft bagged Goblin commanders which was also out in the 80s.
Hope you like the pic:o)

Seems like a bit of a poor idea making a dirty fan hardbag doesn't it? It'll just blow the bag door off and warp the plastic :S Quite nice vacs tho Moullinex. Are there any earlier machines then those? or did they start out in the 80s?

Umm

Umm I know moulinex made vacs earlier than the 80s.
But dirty fan, hard bag vacs don't suffer those kind of problems normaly.
I am aware that sometimes on the Hoover starlight doors use to weaken over time. But most of this design was perfectly fine and used by quite a few company's.
Overall a nice design of vacs:o)

Wow my mom had one of those , the first vacuum I ever saw. I have been looking for one forever, I can find every thing but it, It was replaced by a aeg 509 when the bearings in the motor went.
