I would like to check out the condition of motor commutator, etc.
Can anyone point me to instructions for disassembly of this fine machine?
I would prefer to do it right, rather than hack at it.

Try this

Though I am not extremely familiar with this exact model, I can give you some tricks for royals.(some will apply to older kirbys(505-LegendII))
1. Make sure everything is taken off the main motor unit that can be(i,e, head, handle, casings and trim.
2.If it doesn’t want to come off, don’t force it.
3. If when you get it all cleaned up and back together it doesn’t work, consult your local vac shop.

Hope I was of some help,
Avery

Alfred,

There are also three disassembly videos of Royal cleaners on YouTube you can watch to help you disassemble your 6103.

Royal 880 (by Hank):

Royal 885 (part 1):

Royal 885 (part 2):

The 885 is the one that your 6103 is similar to.

Thank you !!!

Ben – I sincerely appreciate your linking of both the parts list/diagram and the videos – they tell me everything I needed to know.
I certainly could never have guessed that the drive shaft screws onto the motor armature shaft with left hand thread!
I can imagine hours of wailing on it counterclockwise until something broke.

What is not apparent to me, is why both guys "rough up" the part of the drive shaft in front of the fan?
