I asked this in an earlier post; what is everyone's a must have Royal upright vacuum? I am new to these vacuums; I just purchased a 2025 model and a Royal Prince 501 Hand held and can't wait for them to arrive!!

The Royal Prince that I bought comes with its Original box, paperwork/owners manual and the orginal attachments.

Why Two?

I saw in your other post, you wanted a second, and wondered why? 2nd floor use? I also saw you wanted attachments. IMO, it ain't worth it. Much quicker and easier to grab a dedicated little canister for that duty.

So far, I've settled on the Model 9700. If you want background for all the iterations, just search for "Royal". Find the Posts by "KirbyClassicIII" (Ben Edge) and "hygiene903" (Jeff Schroff). Between those two, you could have a definitive book about the history of the Royal line!

That's all I'm going to say, so you will take the time to do your due diligence in finding your dream machine.

I am a big fan of Royal's. My first new vacuum was a Royal 880 in 1974. When I lost it years later I found the 881 in the picture at a thrift store for $8.00. After many hours of restoration instead of being my daily driver, it started my collection. Since then I have added the 880 and recently my dream machine, the 215 on the left. The MRY 8400 is now the houshold cleaner. After experience with various Royal's, I think the ideal Royal's are the 6 amp models. They are very powerful compared to earlier 3 amp models but are much quieter than the newest and current models, and lack the high pitched wine of the 4.5 amp models. BTW I am looking for the correct belt cover the 215 and a new bag for the 880 if anyone can help!

Probably my favorite Royal model would be the 880 or the Electro-Hygiene equivalent model 903. Sure, some of the later models may be more powerful, but these two really have all the power you need. I also like the 801 and 602. Here's my 880 Royal.

As Mike said, I am also a big fan of Royal, but even a bigger fan of Electro-Hygiene. Here's a group shot of several of my Electro-Hygienes. Left to right are 3 model 285's, model 777, 880, 890, and the rare model 980 with the removable nozzle.

Ensemble In Red & Black

And here are some earlier Royals from the early 50's. Model 153, 189 hybrid, a set of attachments shared by both, and a model 157 hand vac. I call the 189 a hybrid because the motor is from a 601, but everything else is 189.

Question on a model 285...

Hello all! I picked up a Royal today. The model number is 285, could anyone tell me what year this dates to? Also, what would the original rug plate look like on this? The one that is on it doesn't cover the nozzle completely. And from the pictures I've seen, the rug plates are rounded at the ends and cover the nozzle all the way to the ends.
