More Target Plastivacs!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Dave, that's funny!!

I reassemble turbo nozzles in big box stores and put their attachments back on the right machines sometimes!!

Everything these days is planned obsolescence not just vacuum cleaners but also washing machines, refrigerators, carpets, etc. Manufacturers depend on machinery to break down so that they have residual business again in about 5 years when the equipment breaks. Additionally there is the price point side. Much of which is Wal-Mart. WalMart wants a product to sell at a certain price point and scavenges out a manufacturer that will do that for them. Pretty soon that machine becomes so popular due its low price that other manufacturers follow suit so that they have a high volume seller!!

No more Plastivacs for me!

I'm so happy with the refurbishd Kirby Sentria I bought on ebay back in October 2013 when my Dirt Devil died.

It looks and runs like Brand New and I can not believe how much dirt the Dirt Devil left behind. I shampooed my carpet with the Kirby shampoo attachment which came with my machine and my 5 year old carpet looks brand new also. This is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned.

Hoover SH 40070

has some cost issues . Machine may sell for $299.00 but to replace hose $152 and circuit board in Power head another $60.00. W hat do you think?

I didn't buy it with keeping it in mind, haven't been a fan of bagless vacs but I figured I'd try out a bagless canister just to see what the fuss was all about. Plus, overall construction was cheap (what a surprise), and ergonomics were pretty much nonexistent. It had one of those stupid 3-in-1 tools which was virtually useless and both motors had whiny, unpleasant sounds when used, especially the power nozzle.

It did clean relatively well for its size but overall it didn't set my heart on fire. I'm sticking to my local dealers here, the extra price is worth it!

Hooverman2121,
Thanks for posting the picture of your new Aerus Platinum. I really like the looks and the shape of the hose handle. It makes the Hoover Plastic vac look pretty sad and cheap.
In your picture it looks like your wands and power nozzle match in color. Some of the pictures I have seen of the Aerus look like they were different colors.
Thanks for posting the picture.

Aerus Platinum

Looking forward to your thoughts on the new Lux. I just saw one in the window at our dealer in Whitestown, NY while waiting to do my taxes but they were closed so I couldn't try it out.

I dont like that Wal-Mart & Target tie down the vacuums! How can people know what they buy? Just let the vac fall off the shelf is better than having it tied down; who cares if it falls on someone?

Fantom's are selling on Ebay for 1000 $??

Whhyyy??? I had a Fantom Fury in the late 90s and I hated it with a red hot passion. Perhaps there's something I'm missing about the desire for them to command such a high price now?

It is a sad sight seeing what's out there in the retail stores. Uneducated consumers buy on impulse, and have no idea of the quality that they'll get. We live in a throw away society now, buy it, use it for a couple of years and if it breaks, throw it out and get a new one. Friends of mine who own a successful vac shop tell me that many of the new ones break before they're out of warranty, and the manufacturer doesn't even have parts for them, so they just send them a new cleaner. Without naming brands, let's just say they're from overseas! Oh well...and the band played on!

Dyson guys will hate me---Dyson Dumpster. When I was taking my trash to the dump-spotted a few Dysons in the electrical-electronics dumpster.Shark vacuums eaten by the Kuka "Shark" trash truck-would love to see this!!Kukas are common in Europe and other areas. They have a large rotating drum inside their bodies. The tailgate has an Auger in it-Kinda like an auger compactor-but the body turns! Also these trucks-copies of them are becoming common in Japan.they are fast-the compactor works continously. No waiting for pack cycles as on American trash trucks.the Japanese like to bag their trash as we are doing-the bags make such delightful POPS when run thru the rotary compactor! To empty the rotary compaction trucks-lift the tailgate and reverse the drum rotation-out goes the trash! These types of trucks are neat to watch.Lots of them on YouTube.Sorry from the drift of vacuums-I like trash trucks as well as vacuums-BOTH clean up our messes!
