I have had 2 Kirbys rebuilt at the factory in the past 5 years. A dual 80 and
a Classic 1CR. The Dual 80, I wanted to be exactly as orginal. It had an almost new org. green shake out bag on it. So when I got the acknowledgement letter
before they worked on it. I asked about 50 questions by phone They were very good about all of it. They did put a new Black bag on it. while everything else was org. Green. Then the best part, they nicely folded the Green cloth bag that was on the emptor. Than placed it in the box too. I was thrilled.

As I wanted the org. Green cloth bag but I wanted a new cloth one. As I already
had the Emptor from a Heritage that I had used for parts. Than I also had in
my personal inventory a brand new org. Green replacement bag. Which I took to the dry cleaners and had a long heavy duty coat zipper placed in it. So I could use
it with the Hepa throw a way bags !

The Classic came back just as if were 1970 and it were new out of the Kirby box.

Looking forward to seeing your project complete.

Just a side note. I grew up with and Loved my grandmothers Kirby 512, when she passed in 1964 It was 14 years old. Never been back to the factory. It was serviced reg. used about once every 2 weeks by the cleaning women. Had a new bag, and of course a new Red plastic handle grip. Grandma's will was for everything to be auctioned. I begged my dad to bid on the Kirby, He did, got it to 69.00, he stopped and would not go any farther. Someone got it for $75.00. It was purchased new for $78.00 in 1952.

Would give a lot yet to day to know where that Kirby 512 went or to have it !

I am sorry you weren't able to get your grandma's Kirby...I would have been heart broken. I am very thankful to have my Grandma's. You should post pics of your Kirby's for me to see, as should James. I love seeing photos.

You know it's funny...no one else in my family ever even liked my Grandma's Kirby except me. They all complained about it, but since I've been selling Kirbys many have bought Sentrias from me...the most common response is "wow, I had no idea a Kirby could do so much, they really are amazing". I just smile and say "yep".

Awe, thanks, I am glad you are enjoying this conversation. I am too. Keep it going by putting up your Kirby photos and telling any stories you might have. I really appreciate Kirbys and the Classic III will always be my fav!

I will take before and after pics since you asked for them. I took it in today and was going to start the project but then ended up running to Missouri to pick up some inventory for the vac shop owner and didn't start on my classic III so I will probably do it on Monday.

I am so thankful from my friends who own a vac shop, they pretty much let me do whatever I want and with their three story "warehouse" of old traded in vacuums I pretty much have an endless supply of Kirbys to recondition and rebuild and somedays I just have fun poking around and going through all the part inventory.

In thinking about it...I hope my Grandma is looking down and saw all the people who critized her Kirby buying one now, lol. I hope I make her smile :-)

Kirby Rebuild using black trim

Does anyone have any photos of a Kirby Co rebuild where the machine came back trimmed out in black? I am just curious to see what that looks like.

brad......

i wanted to tell you that my late grandmother had a Classic III also......my family lost her this summer.....and her Kirby was the VERY first i EVER say as a kid....and my family was horrid to me, but i got her Kirby and i would have taken any one down for it if i had to......

hers was in great shape, the attachments were NVER USED. she had a Hoover Swingette that did all that.....and her house keeper had a late 80's earley 90's red Kenmore canister.....but the bag thats on it is not the orginal CIII bag that was hers....hse had a conversion unit for F&G bags, that was Omega pinstripped, so i had a extra bag assembliy.....

I am very glad to hear that you got your Grandmother's Kirby Classic III! It's beautiful. Classic III's will always be my fav. If you email me your address privately I will send you a Classic III beltlifter label if you'd like a new one. I noticed in the photo that yours is peeling. I think I have an extra one. If you want it that is. I am also glad that you put a sani emptor and wool bag back on it. I am not a fan of the F&G adapters...even the red ones, lol.

Also...

Jason, I noticed that your Classic III must be from 1979 as the cord hooks where moved to the outside of the handle away from the bag. Mine is from 1976 and the hooks are on the inside by the bag. LOL, I had no reason for pointing that out, just an observation.

actually....

hers is from 1978, and ill have think about the belt lifter label. i wanted to keep the orginal one that was brought into her house and was on it when she bought it.....the only things that were replaced were the bag unit, the cord (but she kept the orginal cord in her basemnt with the tools, so that i threw back on....i dont know why she had it repaced, theres nothing wrong with it). but everything else is orginal, aand in good enough shape i dont feel the need or want to replace anything.......but i appeciate your offer, and maybe in time i will....=)

James

Hi James, I have seen your website MANY times...I didn't realize you were "that" James, lol. Wow, very impressive collection! I love it!

How did you get the Gold Trophy model? I am guessing you probably have multiples of some models. Which is your fav?

Do you have all the owners manuals too? I love owners manuals and am on the constant look out for them...I just wondered if you did that too.

Jason

No problem, I totally understand about the belt lifter label. It's taken me since 2000 to decide to recondition my grandma's Classic III. 1978, really? That's cool. I hadn't realized they'd made that change in '78 but it's good to know, I appreciate that information.

Working on getting photos...

the digital camera and I aren't getting along so well but I am working on getting photos of my Classic III and other Kirbys too.

Ok, some photos...

I had already put some of the minor new parts on before I took the before pic, so the old parts are in the photo in front of the Kirby.
