Modern hygiene 240

I received a modern hygiene 220. The seller from another state shipped it for me. She stated the vacuum was a 1948 model. I've researched some on here.
What material is the body of the vacuum body.
I blew rge inner bag out and inner housing. I put a type j royal cannister bag In with the cloth bag. The vacuum isn't sucking wallpaper off but it has some power. It's over 30" long. The attachments are great quality and seem high end for the Era it was made.
The one issue is the power switch which I assume is next to the handle doesn't shut off. It's wired wring or the switch is bad. I don't imagine it being very hard to get that remedied.
The Royal j bags come with a yellow filter near the bottom of the motor. Would the filter fit and work for this vacuum.

Congratulations on your find, Les! You got so lucky it has all its tools, those are not easy to find!

From what I have been reading from Vacuum posts from a very long time ago, this vacuum was designed by a world famous designer and is very much collectible by both people that collect vintage design pieces, as well as vacuum collectors.

You can see it was made by P.A. Geier which from what I recall this vacuum was made as a door-to-door sales vacuum. She is a big girl, makes an Electrolux look rather tiny!

I think from what I remember reading they made these a few years after WW2 ended and factories were starting up again and there was a big industrial revolution for people moving to the suburbs and wanting all these nice fancy appliances and housewares.

The Modern Hygiene is a somewhat rare machine if I'm not mistaken. I always liked how the initials MH were embossed on all the attachments except for the crevice tool and wands. The design was quite unique, but the pre-war model was almost identical to the pre-war Royal, except for the nameplate.
Some folks get Modern Hygiene confused with Electro-Hygiene, but they are designed differently, except for the pre-war models. They were both made by P.A. Geier and the attachments were similar (other than the initials on the Modern Hygiene attachments), but the Modern Hygiene was headquartered in Boston, Mass., and Electro-Hygiene was headquartered in Dayton, OH. Here's a picture of my 950 Electro-Hygiene that was built in the same timeframe as the Modern Hygiene, so you can see the difference. Besides the color, you'll notice that the Electro-Hygiene was a round cylinder, where the Modern Hygiene was somewhat square, also the Electro-Hygiene has the exclusive sanitizing/deodorizing chamber.

The pics of your modern hygiene is gorgeous. What is the outer body of the vacuum made of?.
The electro hygiene is very nice baby blue vacuum too. Where was the scent chamber on the electro hygiene.

Les,

The deodorizing chamber is the red part of the front cover, with a small cover on top of it. You have one just like it on your 230 Electro-Hygiene straight suction upright.
