I sold my Electrolux Model xxx too. It was only listed for one day. It does not have the original crevice tool, small brush and the plug end as well. The rug attachment does not have the lower rubber bumper too. I also sold it with a new cloth bag as well as the old one.

It is amazing how many of these are on eBay and mine was sold. Some people do not know how to price these. There is one on eBay for $299.00 and it doesn't even have all the attachments or the holder as well as the cord winder.

Anybody want to guess again how much it sold for?

I also bought an LXI for $30.00 which is coming this week. The only thing it did not have was the upholstery tool, rug attachment and the cord winder. I have these as extra attachments except for the upholstery tool which I need to hunt for. Oh, and that damn crevice tool.

NOT LXI

Hey Andy,

Sorry...
It wasn't an LXI but just an LX. It had the rear wheels so I thought it was an LXI. It looks like the LX 1954 version since it has the silver electrolux name. Here is a picture of it.

Hi Lovelux.

If it's 1953 or 54 then it IS a LXI! Only the very first models of 1952 early 53 were the true LX's.

There are only two ways to tell, (and even these are questioable) the manufacturers plate under the machine by the motor, and the place under the handle which has the model number, and electrical info engraved. But then, like the wheels and chrome side nameplates these may NOT be original.

The cold, hard fact is that machines this old are rarely original, only those acquired from the first owner can be factory originals. Another sad fact, hoses, cords and things like dusting brushes ware out.

To my trained eye this looks like a LX with replacement side rails. Pictured here is a true model LX. The only change is the cord winder. I borrowed it from a LXI while the plug on the other one was being repaired. But here, ALL OTHER PARTS ARE ORIGINAL.

Just a LX.

Why do you say "just a LX!" these are the purest and rarest of them. Only a precious few still exist. The LXI, while nice, lacks the luster as the yellow nameplates with Electrolux in red were indeed dazzling, and with the companion, (tool holder) all attachments, the chrome Cord winder and black cord it was truly spectacular.

The model LX was the finest machine Electrolux ever made, and nobody, included Electrolux ever used the ejection system again. The E automatic popped open the front cover, so what? But to see the full wrapper being shot across the room, it's the most breathtaking sight one can behold.

Why I sell

It is definitely an LX. The model number is on the top near the handle. See the pic. The bottom has the knob.

Regarding the selling, I really do not collect and keep vacuums in my basement. I try to buy a vacuum cheap, fix it up and sell it. Like the one LX I sold, I bought it for $66.00 and sold it for $189.99. I just sold the Model xxx for $125.99 and bought that one for $85.00. This dirty LX pictured, I just bought for $30.00. It was a mess...see the pic before I cleaned it.

This one I just bought for $30.00, definitely reminds me of the one I grew up with. It had the silver electrolux nameplate and not the red with yellow.

Cord Winder

I bought a cord winder but I believe it is for an LXI since it has where you can swing it open without taking it off and the LXI has a different rear than the LX. I don't think this one will fit the LX, correct? Are these interchangeable with different models? The description on eBay did not say it was for an LXI. Can I take that round metal holder off? I didn't get it delivered yet, so I want to prepare myself for a project to make it fit.

Automatic E

That cord winder is for a Late automatic E. Note the chrome band that runs around it. The 61 cord winder, often referred to as 'swing away', was launched in 1955, and carried over to the first Automatic E models. During the AE's run, the cord winder was changed to have the polished aluminum band running around it.

This is a TRUE LX-I (61), with it's cord winder.

This is the cord winder for a late Automatic E. The polished aluminum band carried over to the first Automatic F's (the one WITHOUT the front door rubber bumpers).

Hi Bikerray.

I was refering to the first model LX's before the dial was introduced to regulate the ejector. The rare few without a hint of hammertone blue.

The fact is that the ejection system had a few bugs not detected at the factory. They only showed up in places like Arizona, and Main, where fine sand caused the machine to 'pop'too soon. In several cases the motor shut off, and the ejector worked fine but the front cover didn't open causing the bags to explode sending dirt into the motor. And in every case Electrolux repaired or replaced the machine at their own expence. They also sent out repairmen to outfit the existing machines with the dial, even the ones that worked fine. And that was the begining of the numerous changes that became the model LXI. So only the ones without the dial were model LX's in their purest form.

And my source of information was Arnold Vale, Manager of the Electrolux branch office in Hamden, Connecticut when I worked there in January 1968-March of 1970.

Cord Winder

Well, I got the cord winder to fit on the LX by removing the metal that is stationary and attaches onto the back of the vacuum. I like that ring going around it. How does it look?

In post #5 you said

The LX ran from 52 thru 54
I have 3 of these one with no control valve knob and the yellow panels, unpainted nose and plug cover and two with the control valve knob and the metal Electrolux sides, hammertone painted nose and plug cover.

The LXI was only 1955
I have one of these

Hi Bikerray.

I only know what I was told when I was 19 by the experts I worked for and who were there when the model LX was invented. If I have facts wrong then they were told to me incorrectly.

Let's agree to disagree.
