Model L

I bought an Electrolux Model L on ebay and when I received it, one wheel was totally cracked. The seller didn't use bubble wrap but brown paper to protect it which obviously didn't work. It was delivered by FedEx so they have a reputation of throwing boxes around. I hope no one here works for FedEx...lol

Anyway, I had to fix it since I couldn't use it with the one wheel hanging off. I used some larger wheels I had and also needed to replace the axle since the hole in the wheel would not fit the original axle and the wheels are larger which they needed additional clearance from the canister. Here are some photos. Looks like a hot rod. You pull it and it rolls great.

They don't match the front, but I didn't care as long as it works.

Good purchase--you'll be glad you kept it and repaired it, even though it's not all original. Functionality trumps originality when it's more than just a showpiece, and what you've done looks fine. The Model L is an Electrolux classic and an effective cleaner. That ivory color with the teal trim is my favorite--in part because it looks clean and it matches the PN-1 power nozzle.

The Model L used to be the longest-manufactured economy model (1963-1979) until the current Lux Classic (1982-present) took the lead (it was designed in Canada and called the E-Special then).

This one was sold alongside the aqua Model G, Model GH (hospital), aqua Model CB, aqua Model B-8, and ivory, teal-based Rug Washer from 1963-66. Since the tan Model G, the Model L matched the automatic cylinder cleaners in tan, teal and metallic gold. Btw, I have all four colors.

To my knowledge they kept the same motor all those years.

That bites!

I've had to make a few repairs like that to transit damaged items. It always really cheeses me off when sellers/shippers are that careless. I hope you complained and got at least a partial refund. Careless sellers/shippers need to be held responsible for their (in)actions. I guess the flip side of that coin is it makes me doubly appreciative of sellers who do take the time to properly package their items and/or voluntarily step up to make good when things get busted. All that said, I'm glad you were able to fix it. I agree that what you did doesn't look bad at all and you should get years of good service out of that machine, which is the most important part.

Replaced Wheels

I replaced the wheels with the original kind for the Model L. I found these on eBay. On the axle where I had to hack saw the end off, I drilled a small hole in the axle and then used a small washer and a black wood screw to keep the wheel on. The color is lighter than the ones it had originally but they work perfectly. I may eventually sell this one on eBay.

Nice job, looks so much better! I hear those wheels are a b***h to do. I have that model as well, mine was a gift from fellow Vacuumlander Phillip M. It's hard to beat any of those older models. I have a couple of vinyl hoses I use with mine, my originals all leak.
