Model 65 ... in Pink!

I finally found one on eBay and collected it today. It's in great condition, with the original vinyl bag. I haven't done anything with it yet. I just wanted some advice before I do anything rash.

A few people have mentioned how delicate these bags can become. This one seems to have deteriorated a little near the base, around the bellows. When I move the bag holder at the top, the bag itself seems to stay rigid, rather than to move in any way. What's the best way to clean and then preserve such a bag? If it's rigid, has is it already beyond redemption?

I'll put some photos up in a few days. At the moment I'm just so excited at having found one.

Hi Nick i have just come back form Sydney on hols with friends in Clovelly ( i so wish i was back there ! its -5c here)!, i looked at Aussie ebay and saw this machine , glad its gone to a good home. You also get a lot of electroluxes on ebay. I have brought a hoover home to england last time i visted Oz thanks to your chuck out idea ( we have to take things to the tip ourselves where they are usually crushed). I have this model of cleaner too and used it as an daily driver until i found out how rare they are.Excuse the messy room its now tidier!

Hey Nick, I used to have one of these, I think the vinyl is quite stiff by nature. I used a product called Autosol on mine after wiping it clean with a damp cloth, not sure if you get it in Aus, but it's a protector spray for plastic parts on cars like dashboards.

Be careful if the bag looks grubby, what looks like grey flecks may actually be part of the bag print, it nearly caught me out!

Otherwise, just treat it carefully! Store it out of direct sunlight (a good idea for any collectable that can fade or become discoloured), and when you use the machine be careful not to catch the bag on furniture or anything.

Thanks for all the responses. What a small world when you come half way around the globe, see a vintage vacuum on eBay, and then find you know the person who bought it.

I've posted a picture in a different thread. It cleaned up very nicely indeed.

Simon: you're very right about the grey flecks on the bag. The inside is bright pink which can make you think the outside should be too, and therefore start scrubbing away. I realised that the grey was somehow part of the print as it appeared very evenly spread across the cloth.

I won't be using it all the time, but I certainly intend using it from time to time. It's such a gem.

any collector MUST have one

of these! They were the "first" Convertible. Our bags were bigger. They ultimately made them smaller. I've heard of people spraying Armorall to make the bags "supple", again. Not sure that works. Congrats !!

I meant to say Armorall like John just said, not Autosol, which is a metal polish! Well, they both begin with the same letter...
