Misleading Description at Best Buy - Shark Vacs

I was just surfing Best Buy's website and checking out their vacuum line-up.

I was surprised to see that about half of their Shark Rotator and Rocket bagless uprights were erroneously advertised as "self-propelled"! To my knowledge, no Shark vacuums have self-propulsion mechanisms similar to some Hoover or Kirby uprights. Am I missing something here?

Interesting...

Although Shark vacuums aren't self-propelled, I have used a Shark Rocket Professional at a local family center. As I was using it, the brush roll spun so fast, the vacuum felt like it was self-propelled going forward! And this was on low-pile commercial carpet.

You would have to ask Best Buy about changing the descriptions of Shark vacuums.

Or it could just be the very idea that the vacuum feels like it has a self propelled feeling based on customer feedback that has been tagged in the spec on the site. I know some sellers have suggested that the SEBO X has self drive on older specs and again that comes down to the way the sensor moves, even though it doesn't have a conventional self drive mechanism.

eBay does that too

eBay has their own specs that come up if you select a model that have a template for. The problem is they are generally very inaccurate. Stupid things like self propelled and full bag indicator for an oreck upright. That was a source of frustration for me when a buyer complains that vacuum is not self propelled and I didn't even put that there.

The thing is, most uprights with a rotating brush feel like they could move forward on their own, but never backward. Anyone who has used a Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel will know that there is a significant difference between the feel of a standard upright and one with a transmission of power to the wheels that also helps you on the backstrokes.

It's like the overuse of the Dyson terminology "bagless cyclonic." Every $20 cordless Dustbuster is now touted as featuring cyclonic technology.

EBay is one thing - I am no longer surprised at the inaccuracies found there. But a "Big Box" electronics store like Best Buy should be expected to be less sloppy. They aren't even a department store offering everything - their focus is on home entertainment and electrical appliances.

I hate to sound like an old fogey, but I think it's a generational thing. The "haste makes waste" society created by fast-paced computers and "I" electronics creates for a very fast and sloppy society where no one cares about the details any more.

I've written Best Buy about this and hopefully it will be rectified.
