I just ordered a Hoover decade 80 from eBay for a pretty reasonable price. I’m pretty excited to get it because I’ve never owned one of these old Hoovers! This one is a little different from your typical decade 80. It has a 4.8 amp motor which I have not seen on YouTube. Was hoping someone would be able to tell me if they have ever used a 4.8 amp or if there is any major differences!? Im pretty excited to receive it because they are so powerful!

Great find! I think I have the bottom end model of that one (same colors but no Decade 80) I got out of a dumpster in the early 2010's. It's buried in my garage somewhere but I know I still have it as I remember seeing it a couple years ago.

I never knew the decade 80s had motor variations, I will have to check mine. I thought they all just used bigger motors than the base models and the motors were all the same.

@huskyvacs

Yes I thought the same, as though they were supposed to be larger and better than the convertible. From nust doing some basic research it looks like some people were saying that they did have motor variations but there isn’t a sound difference or performance difference?

Decade 80 performance.

Strangely the 6 amp variation I tested had lower airflow than the convertible I've tested. It was suggested that the 6 bladed plastic fan may be the culprit as the convertible used a metal fan with more blades. I think the fill tube may also make a difference. Kind of dissapointing I do prefer the styling and top fill bag used on the 80, though it's flow may be less it's still not a bad machine.

Awesome video!

I’m super excited to get it! Someone I’m seeing happens to also like vacuums and he has 2 decade 80s, and old convertible, and some others. He isn’t a collector persay but he does have an interest!
