Burning question here:

Does anyone know of a mini-PN (like Lux's Sidekick) that will work with the TriStar CXL? I am interested only in a true power brush unit, NOT a turbo brush.

Anyone?

Forgot to Explain:

When I moved from Georgia to Iowa a couple of years ago, I left my TriStar behind in storage, but it's coming up here very soon. When I used the TriStar in Georgia, I had a Dirt Devil Model 500 I used for stairs and upholstery. However, since then, I've acquired a Lux 1205 with a Sidekick. The Sidekick has me rotten spoiled, compared to the Dirt Devil. That vac is a total pain to maintain and empty - the Sidekick requires no additional maintenance besides just taking care of the vac it's attached to.

So that's what has me interested. I'm hoping someone makes a universal mini-PN that's usable with the CXL.

Thanks!

Mini-Power Nozzle by Wesselwerk

I've been looking at this one for a while. There is another one out there that looks just like the first model of sidekick, with a pigtail cord, but I can't seem to find it tonight.
Good Luck,
Jay

Mini turbo nozzle

I know Tristar did offer the Whirlwind at least I think that's the name. The Whirlwind is a turbo nozzle not an electric mini pn, its black and has says Tristar Whirlwind or something to that effect on the front. The mini turbocat nozzle performs much better in my opinion. Kirby used to sell these with their Heritage series of vacuums.

Jay:

Thanks - I had seen that Wessel Werk unit on a couple of Websites, but didn't know if it would work with the CXL.

Kenny - I appreciate the info, but I'm looking for a brush with an electric motor. I have never found any turbo (air-driven) brush that will get cat hair off of upholstery as effectively as a motor-driven one. And I have the shedding-est little boy you ever saw ;-)

TriStar Says:

The Ministar is only for its current generation of machines - the EXL through MG3. I think the wand diameter is different.

I have bought one of the Wessel Werks, it will work on my montgomery wards, eurekas, electrolux's, any 2 prong .

And its much cheaper on Ebay than at the Central Vac site.

You get the extension tube free on ebay, where you pay $8.69 on Central Vac.

Kenmore Power-Mate Jr....

Sandy, if I was you, I wouldn't get that Wessell Werk HEB160 Mini Powerbrush. I don't know your reasons for not wanting a Hand Turbobrush, but if it has to do with wanting a more aggressive brushing action, this one will leave you disappointed I am afraid. This is nothing more than a motorized version of Wessell Werk's Hand Turbobrush they have made for years, & it has the same brushroll. So, the only way this one would be better than the Hand Turbobrush is that you wouldn't get the "bogging down" effect where the brush slows down on furniture, or starts to slow because the vacuum's suction is decreasing, so the brush starts turning slower as a result. But since it has the same brushroll, it would still leave you disappointed with it's brushing action.

I have a TriStar & I have the newer-style Kenmore PowerMate Jr that I use with it. I find the PowerMate Jr works better than my Wessell Werk Hand Turbobrush does, because the brushroll is more aggressive. If you have the hose with the metal handle, NOT the Pistol Grip style which came out later, then this will work for you. All you need to do is go to your local vac shop & get a long pigtail cord, like the one on your hose on the canister end, plug the receptacle end into the PowerMate Jr, & then plug the cord's plug into your hose.

I will see if I can take a pic later this week & post it on the thread here for you to see what I mean, Sandy.

As far as the wessell werks mini powerbrush goes, as being the owner of one I couldn't be more satisfied with a product. I bought it a couple of months ago since I no longer had a sidekick or pet powermate to use. I am very impressed with it, doesn't get bogged down, runs extremely quiet. It is far from being any turbo tool! Works very well with every 2 pronged plug on any make of vacuum, even Kenmore.

Question!

Ben:

Is the HEB160'S extension tube needed as an adapter or something? I have yet to find a product description on any site that makes this clear.

Rob:

I'll keep the Kenmore in mind. Thanks.

The mini wand, I haven't had the need for it yet but it holds the cord in place for a quick connect/disconnect from certain hoses. It also saves your back when cleaning stairs, giving you that extra reach.

Wessel Werk It Is....

....After reading all the input here, I think I'm going for the HEB160. The reviews from members here seem satisfactory.

I also like the styling, which has a certain retro look that I think will look good with the CXL. Almost like it was made for the CXL.

And last - with apologies to Rob - I just can't bring myself to let any Sears back in the house. About ten years ago, I started eliminating it all, because I was not happy with Sears Parts' idea of customer service, nor the company's "forced obsolescence" created by dropping service parts for stuff like my Whispertone vac or Spray Mate carpet cleaner. And I grew up in a Sears household, with EVERYTHING Sears. All Sears is gone now.

Also, the somewhat less aggressive brushroll of the HEB160 may be a plus. I have some really good upholstered pieces, like a wingback chair upholstered in cherry red flamestitch damask. That's a fairly fragile fabric, subject to wear from abrasion. I don't presently use the Sidekick on it because the brushroll on that unit is like a piranha - bites hard and aggressively.

As soon as the CXL is up here from Atlanta and the HEB160 is in use, I'll post owner experience and pics.

Many thanks to all of you!
