Hello! I had a question on Regina electrik brooms. I wanted one for awhile and I think I’ll buy one, except I’ve heard they burn up or almost catch on fire. I was wondering if the cause was similar to Orecks where something gets stuck in the fan and it burns up or is it something else, and does anyone know if this is true and if it is what can you do to prevent it? -J

Yes my grandma had one catch on fire once. If you use it often you really need to remove the intake assembly from the main fan/motor housing and clean inside the fan and motor regularly. I think that’s why they would burn up, a lot of people didn’t do that. But I think on the bottom assembly it says to remove and clean often or similar. It’s been years since I’ve used one.

I have the last one made which I believe Oreck took and rebranded it. The issue with Reginas comes from the late 80's models before the company went bankrupt. They used smaller, cheaper motors that spun at a higher RPM, which made them exceptionally loud and they generated more heat as well. If you used them long enough they very well could start melting.

I reply:
I had this happen once with a Kirby Legend II a few years ago. I was vacuuming my bedroom and it sucked up a tissue, which got caught between the spindle and the belt, and caught fire. I stopped the machine as soon as I smelled smoke, and the cause was immediately apparent when I removed the floor nozzle. No permanent damage was done, but the spindle has a smoky appearance to this day.
