Easy test to see if it's the cordwinder. Take the cord all the way out, plug the machine in and press the power button. Look inside the hole where the cord goes and you should see the reel. Take a long screw driver and try to push the reel to the right. If the problem is in fact the reel (which is most likely) then the machine will turn on. Email me for further info.
to take a look at the "park" switch. I believe the White Pearl has one. On our Red Velvet it would stick from time to time, rendering the machine inoperative.
tried all the tests you guys suggested but still no go. I'm suspecting the power switch itself, doesn't "click" when you press it, feels kind of odd. Fortunately there is a Miele dealer right here in town....wonder if they would take it in on trade for a new "Twist" ?
The vac shop called today, said it was the speed selector switch. It will run about $125 for the repair. Honestly don't know if that's a good price or a bad one but I told them to go ahead. Can't afford a new vac right now and would hate to get rid of a nice vac like this, but no more repairs after this one.
